3.1 Earthquake Rattles Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND — The New York Geological Society reports that a very minor, 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Staten Island area at around 11:30pm eastern standard time on Saturday. Initial reports from the geological society indicate that the quake was not one predicted on any normal fault lines, and is another mysterious "mini quake" that has rocked the southern New York region in as many months.

Prior quakes hitting New Jersey were reported last month, with one highly irregular quake happening from from known fault lines. Due to Staten Island's status of an unofficial No Man's Land, the extent of the damage done by the quake is unknown.
