Synopsis:

Adam isn't a man who is easy to describe. For the most part, people will find him charming, affable, polite and direct. He often appears a man who is unafraid to take dangerous risks, mostly because he is. He might also be called a psychopath, it's easy to dismiss his disregard for human life this way. He is numb to most of the human condition due to his long life and often seeks out pearls of sanctuary to remind him that he is still human. There was a time, a long time, where he believed the best way to deal with the world is to end it. Put an end to humanity and put an end to all the problems, but recent events have dissuaded him of this plan. It's not so much that he has gained a new conscience, but rather he sees that such plans always appear to fail. Humans are such roaches.

Instead, he has begun to consider the option of taking the world and setting things right personally, but that isn't easily done. The first and most obvious obstacle to this plan is his previous creation 'the Company', not to mention all the other Founders, almost all of whom have garnered enough power of their own to remain thorns in his side. So this is his mission for the foreseeable future; destroy The Company, destroy all organizations that would take the place of The Company and kill all off the remaining Founders. After that will likely come political assassination and ridding himself of other Evolved who might be powerful enough to stop him. But that comes later. For now, he'll move the pieces along the board and see what shakes out.

So he has reinvented himself as a freedom fighter on the side of right. He must destroy The Company because of its oppressive tactics. The question is, will he come to believe his own hype?

For now, he gathers men and women for his cause and plucks the strings of others, all to make sure he gets the result that he wants.

Skills:

• Adam is a skilled sword fighter. In Adam's own thoughts, there never has been or is a better swordsman than he. Now the truth of the statement may be an exaggeration, but he is extremely skilled in sword play. While his sword of choice is a katana, he is skilled in all manner of bladed death.

• Adam is classically educated. It is likely he was born into a privileged family in England, particularly considering the expense it must have taken to transplant himself to Japan. He would be quite well read in pre-Enlightenment philosophy and perhaps a few of the early Enlightenment theorists. He's kept up with philosophy now and again, but could hardly be considered an expert in anything too modern to him. He is quite familiar with the Bible, the central book to be learned in his time, and had to learn in it both Greek and Latin. He is quite familiar with formal courtly manners, which translates somewhat to modern understandings of politeness. He has likely forgotten quite a bit about early scientific and botanical theory. For most the part, one can imagine the sorts of things a lower class noble English boy would have been taught and you have what Adam has learned.

• Polyglot - Through the years, Adam has had to learn to read and write several languages. He is most familiar with English, Japanese and French. However, he is also capable in German and Italian. With some effort, he could likely read Latin and ancient Greek, but his abilities in these dead languages has waned over the years. While he has likely been able to pick up more modern slang and usage in English, Japanese and French, he would be terribly unprepared in this respect in his German and Italian.

• Adam has actually been a soldier for most of his life. He has also been in officer during some of his tenures. He is quite practiced and studied in the art of warfare. While newer, modern warfare would be less familiar to him, he understands the base tactics and strategies that are utilized during wartime. He is familiar with famous battles of the past and has likely fought in a few of them. He is a skilled marksman in most weaponry that has been utilized before 1970. While he has only recently been reintroduced to modern firearms, he has taken to them quite well. He may not be able to strip a high tech rifle, but he can certainly point and shoot it the same as a musket.

• Adam is wealthy. Adam has lived through the introduction and advent of capitalism and took to it quite well. Through every of his incarnations, he has been able to amass and extend his wealth. He has also been able to keep hereditary accounts that he has recently been accessing to give him an impressive amount of purchasing capacity. He could, were he to so choose, play in the stock market. Unfortunately, he would not be familiar with a lot of the modern laws and regulations and would likely need to undertake a lot of training to become so. He knows more about financial markets than most lay people, but your average stock broker is more familiar with the way the market works 'now' than he is.

• Hand to hand fighting - Adam is a capable dirty fighter. However, he has received little formal training in unarmed combat aside from Judo (some four hundred years ago) and other techniques that he might have gone through under certain basic trainings. For the most part, Adam has relied on weapons, particularly swords, so he hasn't found the need to be highly skilled in different martial arts styles. So, if he found himself in a dojo, he might be a match for some experienced students, but would be no match for the instructor. However, in times when improvised and dirty fighting would be necessary, for instance a bar or a brawl on the street, he is highly capable at defending himself. However, his goal during such a time would be to find some sort of improvised weapon.

• Adam is a liar. He has always been a bit of a liar. He has become quite practiced in it. He litters his lying with half truths so that it's harder to tell what is and what isn't false. And he's more than capable of telling a lie without showing any physical or physiological tells. A telepath could wrench most, if not all, of the truth from him if he doesn't know he's being 'listened in on' though his experience with Evolved would make this unpreparedness less likely. An Evolved lie detector would likely find the mix of truth and lies hard to detect likely leading to everything Adam says to being a bit 'wierd'. It's also the case, that after centuries of lying and reinventing the past, that many times Adam himself may be incapable of remembering the truth of certain events.

• People don't change. Customs, language and attitudes may, but people generally stay the same. Adam is extremely capable in spotting lies and truthfulness as well as reading people. Adam is not a human lie detector or an empath, but he is quite practiced in noting those things that give people away when they try and tell a lie. He's no Daniel Lightman, but he could certainly be part of the Lightman group (If there weren't copyright issues). It also makes him extremely capable at poker.

• From his travels and his life incarnations, Adam is very good at matching accents. If it is an accent of a region he has lived, he can likely be fairly accurate in it. So, he could probably tell most American southern accents apart and place their origins, however since he was never Russian, one Russian likely sounds the same as another. He is also able to capably mimic accents that he is most familiar with.

• Adam is an extremely practiced gambler. While luck plays a part in all games of chance, Adam is familiar and skillful enough with most gambling games to at least do what he can to set those odds in his favor. For some games, with high levels of house advantage (such as roulette), this means little. But games with much lower levels of house advantage (such as Blackjack, poker and in some ways craps), Adam is more likely than not going to come away with profit.

Evolved Human Ability:

Adam possesses rapid cell regeneration. Unlike other regenerators, his wounds heal almost instantaneously so long as the offending object is removed from his system. This is due to the sheer amount of time he has had with his power. Further, his body actually expels foreign objects, such as bullets, from his body so that it will heal. He has also stopped aging for many centuries.
The power is not without limitations. While it has never been proven, it is generally been accepted that taking his head would cause him to be unable to repair itself. This stands as a theory, since clearly no one has done so yet. Further, his body is so reliant upon its regeneration that if he is without his power for any significant amount of time, he will end up aging very quickly and possibly even turn to dust.

Huruma - Adam met Huruma when they were both imprisoned in Level 5. After a series of events, they escaped together and even took part in a bonding month of torture. Since then, Adam has healed Huruma and she has become his most trusted confidante as well as more.

Zoe - DECEASED. The niece of Daniel Linderman. A quiet mousy girl who has spent most of her life studying Adam. Adam has taken this opportunity to steal something of value from Linderman. It would be a mistake to say that his feelings for the girl are entirely manufacturered, but he's certainly embellishing them to give Zoe a storybook romance. Adam had real feelings for her, this upset him quite a bit.

Tamsine - How did this valuable woman go unnoticed by the supposed masterminds of New York? The mother of one of the children involved in 'the 36', she seems rather broken and unsure of where to go. On top of everything, she can teleport. A grief stricken woman looking for a cause? Oh, it's like she was created by God for Adam alone. Adam has put her in charge of a small business that he plans to use as a safe house for the Evil League of Evil. You might also rightfully call her his girlfriend, though they're not exclusive. They broke up.

Abby - Abby is the goodiest do gooder in all of New York. Everyone likes Abby and apparently listens to her. So what if the goodiest do gooder had nothing but good things to say about one Adam Monroe. Adam has taken to what he calls protecting Abby, which consists of mysteriously appearing and showering her with gifts and good will. When people start to discuss the Monroe menace, Adam means to have Abby to speak on his behalf. Meh.

Lola - It's difficult to describe Lola and Adam's relationship. They have very little in common and they don't seem to agree on a whole lot. But they go back and forth between being in a relationship and not. At the root of their problem is the fact that Lola is an employee of Daniel Linderman's. Initially he was just looking to seduce an employee away from Danny boy but things have gotten complicated.

The Disciples

Amy - Adam came upon Amy much by coincidence as he witnessed her steal from a rather sarcastic teenager. However, Adam thought that Amy might have some potential and so sought her out and took her in. He's sent her family very far away and now she is entirely under his tutelage. He will remake Amy in his image, not to mention make sure Elle Bishop finds herself quite surprised by his protege. (retired)

Kaylee - Kaylee is a telepath. The young girl came upon Adam during a time when all he could think about was his lack of foundations in keeping his children or any of descendants. Here was a girl with so much potential and it looked wasted to him. So he took his regret and channeled it into her. Now, he plans to create a disciple in his image.

Simon - Young Simon. A young evolved who has really eaten up all this 'destroy the company cause'. Right now, he serves Adam as a messenger and a scout, but Adam has long term plans and will ease Simon into his service. (retired)

The Minions

Paul - Paul is Adam's legal counsel. A pro-evolved rights attorney who appears to have absolutely zero compunctions about anything Adam is doing. This could prove to be quite useful.

Sabrina - Sabrina serves as Adam's personal assistant. She is apparently quite efficient and appears quite dedicated to her job and she had better be for the money he pays her. Upon the discovery of her power by Adam, she has become a reluctantly integral part of the league. In some ways, she acts like Adam's conscience, because she continually tries to convince him that his quest for revenge isn't worth the cost of life. Adam never quite listens. Still, Adam trusts her, because she knows that whether it took a week, a month, a year, a decade, he would find her and he would make her pay for any betrayal.

Ash - Ash is a recent escapee from Moab. When he came to Adam, he had few prospects or opportunities and Adam put him on the payroll. As it turned out, Ash was exactly what the organization needed. Ash has become a trusted foot soldier in the war, whatever war Adam is waging at the time. It may be a little time before Ash becomes more like a captain, but it's bound to happen.

Brian - Adam really doesn't know a whole lot about Brian, which is partially why he doesn't at all trust him. After some misunderstandings which turned to gunshots, Brian approached Adam about working for him. Having seen Brian at Pinehearst during the demise of the building and also that Brian appeared well aware of Adam before they had met, Adam suspects Brian of being either Company or Phoenix. Adam has not determined whether or not Brian is either, but he does know that Brian is something. He causes problems within the group, acts with arrogant disregard and has gotten too close to Kaylee. That's strike one for anyone.

Grim - After an initial lie, Grim admitted to Adam that he was an illusionist and not a pyromancer. Adam doesn't like Grim very much, but he continually debates as to whether it's because Grim is not trustworthy or because Grim and Kaylee seem to be too close. After discussion with some others, he's leaning towards untrustworthy, there are things about Grim that simply do not add up…

Alia - Adam pretty much Alia pegged as a technopath. They met first during a bank robbery and she's found herself in the same places and same times as Adam. Adam decided to track her down after a particularly detailed portrait of him reached the police that she drew on her computer. After having decided she was benign enough, Adam put her on the payroll. He's a little concerned that she doesn't have the stomach for any real work, but we shall see.

Isis - Isis was formerly Adam's bartender at Biddy's until she disappeared on him. Apparently she was on some crazy mission that she doesn't like to talk about. As it turns out, Isis is a body snatcher and now down on her luck. Adam's always there to pick up the pieces and she's a recent addition to the cause.

Jet - Jet is a new and mysterious member of the faction. Of her past, Adam knows very little, but she is some sort of body snatcher who was recommended by Ash. Upon learning of both her ability and her penchant for causing trouble, Adam had an immediate plan for her and soon enough, it'll be put into action.

Nicolas - Nicolas is a technopath who had himself a comfortable, but ultimately mediocre career as a computer consultant. Adam convinced him there was more money in taking over the world.

Sam - Sam Book is an interesting character. He is a former Company agent who lost his family to the Company. It was Bob Bishop who decided to not let Sam retire as he wanted to. Sabrina pulled in the information about Mr. Book from Pinehearst's record system stolen from the Company. Sam agreed to join Adam's crusade on the condition that Adam let Sam be the one to kill Bob Bishop. After giving it some consideration, Adam agreed. Even if he gives Bob to Sam, Adam can still kill Elle.

Ewan - Adam happened upon Ewan in the park. He watched the boy dance in all his modern style and reawakened an old love in Adam, the love of dance! He then hired the boy to be his dance instructor, getting Adam familiar with all the dance moves that he never learned while he was in Level 5. (retired)

Nalani - Nalani made the mistake of using her power in front of a highly perceptive individual. Adam approached Nalani to get her to work for him. When she appeared less than willing, he painted her a picture of a future in which everyone knows what she is and what she can do. She did not like that future, but she has given Adam some resistance. Black mail is like a gun with one bullet, and he plans to use that bullet the best he can. (retired)

Lita - Punk girl who likes to fight the Man. Easy enough for Adam to cast the Company as the Man personified. Adam wouldn't exactly count on her loyalty, yet, but time has a way of making all sorts of people loyal to a cause. (retired)

The Associates

Deckard - Deckard is a tired, haggard looking man. He deals guns and other sorts of equipment and so has become Adam's main supplier. Adam likes Deckard well enough, he seems straight forward and doesn't appear to care what Adam plans on using his equipment for. Apparently he also used to go out with Abby or something, but Adam witnessed that ending. It amused him.

Eve - Though he enjoys her 'companionship', he doesn't trust this seer very much. Her portents of the future have been quite unpredictable and until they start showing a future Adam would very much like to see, he'll be keeping this one on a short leash.

Mortimer - Crazy people often make the best associates. Mortimer is an insane biker gang leader who likes exploding things. Adam approached him with a simple plan, blow up the company. Let's see what comes of it. Adam also recently witnessed a fighter between Mortimer and Dutch where Mortimer made the common villain mistake of making a speech and then throwing a grenade instead of the other way around. Good help is hard to find.

Jake - Jake's name came along to Adam as a possible hire. The gentleman, while being a mercenary, also is apparently some executive in a aero company. Jake's accepted Adam's call for employment for now. Will he be in for the long run? We shall see.

Cardinal - To hear him tell it, Richard Cardinal is the best thief on the planet. And so, for the moment he works for Adam Monroe doing odd jobs. He couldn't be counted on as a full time employee, frankly, he doesn't know who it is Cardinal works for. He's not entirely sure Cardinal does.

Liu - Along with his sister, leads the Triads. Recently, Adam entered into a partnership with the triads to sell the drug Refrain along with a continued financial and mutual helping relationship. Adam has some respect for Liu, but doesn't trust the shifty Chinaman.

Bao-Wei - Other than that he is an important member of the Triads and some sort of geneticist, Adam knows very little of Bao-Wei yet. However, Adam knew a Dr. Mengele and Bao-Wei has the same look he did…

Devi - Sometimes, you just need to be able to throw a violent and rambunctious bunch of individuals at a problem. With Mortimer disappeared or out of commission, Adam turned his attention to the up and coming Ravens Motorcycle Club. Devi, the head of the club, has agreed to be contracted help for Adam, particularly in his fight with Daniel Linderman. While not something he's going to tout out all the time, it certainly is something that will become useful under certain circumstances.

Agnes - Agnes appears to be Devi's 'bitch', whatever they may consist of, Adam isn't terribly sure. So all in all, Agnes is really an afterthought except for the fact she's important to Adam's newest piece of the puzzle.

Pieces

The Pieces on the Board

Magnes - Adam has dubbed him 'Gravity Lad'. Adam happened upon Magnes by fortune alone. He wanted a pizza and Magnes came along to deliver. Adam has determined that Magnes is a puppy dog follower of Abby. Magnes also insinuated he is either a student or really in love with Hiro Nakamura. His mistake. Adam has considered moving him onto the list, but Magnes has been more of a pest than a threat.

Mallory - Some snot nosed teenager who has no idea how to speak to her elders. (retired)

Chloe - An Evolved, a possible puppeteer. She's clearly insane, spending most of her time speaking through some dirty puppet bird on her hand. Adam wouldn't take much notice, except Elle Bishop wants her for the Company and so, now Adam wants her instead. (retired)

Dutch - Pro evolved ATF agent whom Adam attempted to let in on the conspiracy all around him. Dutch had the good graces to bring Adam in for questioning instead. Likely, Dutch will end up becoming aware of the secrets he's being used for, but even if he comes over, Adam will have to have a little retribution. (retired)

Cassidy - A rather interesting police detective who came to question Adam. There's not much to be said of her yet, except she seemed to have good humor. It turns out, she's Mortimer's paramour, or at least Mortimer thinks so. Adam has no current plans for the detective at this time.

Kimiko - Despite the fact that Kimiko is Kaito's daughter and Hiro's sister, Adam has no particular feelings towards her one way or another. She's just an interesting piece to use in the Nakamura feud. Adam doesn't really know her, just that she's apparently a capable business woman and Adam likely thinks she's a daddy's girl.

Hiro - Carp. There was a time that Adam would have called Hiro a true friend, but then Hiro betrayed him. After an epic duel and the death of Hiro's father, Adam considers the slate cleaned. He bears no ill will towards Hiro.

Satoru - Some mixed Japanese boy on skates. While the boy apparently works for John Logan, Adam has temporarily rented the boy's services for a mission. Adam doesn't really have many more thoughts on the boy other than that. Up until the boy flaked on the very mission he was hired for. Now Adam thinks of him as someone of very little import and reliability. Satoru has been since taught a lesson.

Ethan - The ex-right hand of Kazimir Volken. While Ethan may be non-evolved, he has proven to be significantly capable of holding his own and getting his missions accomplished. Adam made overtures to Ethan after Kazimir's death, but Ethan decided he wanted to be independent for now. At least for the moment, Ethan remains that way.

Doyle - Seriously Eric? WHAT IS YOUR DEAL?

The Scoobies

The Scooby Doo Gang

Helena - Helena Dean, the superstar celebrity of the group Phoenix. A group that Adam has a certain disdain for because of their ineffective and ridiculously moralistic methods. He's met her twice and was impressed neither time. However there are times when she might prove useful since, in theory, they fight the same enemies.

Leonard - The quiet punk of Phoenix. Adam's seen him a time or two but can't place his name yet. He does know that he was formerly Abby's roommate. Other than that, he's just a snot nosed little punk.

Cat - Frankly, Cat Chesterfield looks like she should be shopping rather than fighting a guerilla war. At any rate, she's a part of Phoenix and apparently someone of import. Adam knows her parents, but frankly doesn't know any of them very well. She's cute though.

The Enemy Soldiers

Katherine - (DECEASED) Got in my way.

Minea - Adam came upon Minea when Minea and Katherine were apparently trying to recruit some crazy girl with powers. However, Minea made the mistake of saying that they were doing so at Elle Bishop's behest. So Adam got involved. In the firefight that ensued, Adam killed Katherine and injured Minea gravely. Now he knows Minea is company and will be sure to include her in his plans.

Veronica - Adam happened upon agent Veronica Sawyer in New York. After a bit of a scuffle in which he tasered Veronica to submission, he took her gun, her tranq, her personal blackberry and her badge. They serve as trophies, though he's gotten rid of the blackberry after scouring it for any useful information.

Hugh - Some company agent who showed up after the fight as well. Adam will find out more about this interloper.

Carrie - Agent Castillo. Only knows of her because of some live feed of a fight. Other than being Company, Adam knows nothing about her except she has a nice chest.

Matt - Matthew Parkman, son of sniveling telepath Maury Parkman. It's possible that Adam held Matt as a baby, but even if he did, he probably didn't like it. Adam tried to feed Matt some information but found him obstinate and unwilling to deal. Adam views him as useless as his father.

Aude - Not a company agent. But apparently a very anti-Evolved police woman that has been around Adam's periphery until she shot him. He doesn't really care about being shot, but having a hater with a badge out there is dangerous and must be dealt with.

The List

The List

Kaito - (DECEASED) As Adam explains it, Kaito grew corrupt with power and imprisoned him unjustly for trying to destroy the Shanti virus. And now that Kaito is dead…who's to say that isn't exactly what happened?

Elle - Snot nosed spoiled brat with a penchant for sadism. They had themselves a bit of a fling and now Adam's convinced she's just acting out like that woman from Fatal Attraction…if he had seen Fatal Attraction. She'll get hers, but Adam's pretty sure Daddy comes first.

Bob - Bumbling Bob Bishop. The Midas King was never a particular favorite of Adam's and now he's in charge of the very organization that wouldn't have existed without Adam. Bob needs to be shown the errors of a long, mistaken life.

Linderman - Daniel. His greatest disciple and perhaps his greatest disappointment. Why didn't you come rescue me Daniel? How could you forget about me? I'll have these answers Daniel and if I don't like them, you'll find your fate very much not to your liking.

Arthur - Self-important, egotistical Arthur. Adam works with him for now,but only because Arthur's current aims coincide with his own. One day, when he's not expecting it, Arthur will reap the whirlwind.

Angela - Angela, Angela. What did you see that turned you against me so quickly? It will come to pass. I guarantee you.

Maury - Sniveling Maury. He'll get his when he stops switching masters so quickly.

Fedor - According to Richard Cardinal, Fedor was responsible for the air strike on Staten Island, softening them up for the government and Frontline. It might seem odd that Adam is bothered by this, but he is. Wholesale slaughter isn't alright if it isn't according to Adam's plan. (retired)

Trivia and Notes:

• Adam's birth name is unknown. He has taken on "a few dozen names", most notably Takezo Kensei and Adam Monroe.

• Adam is an excellent dancer. He is skilled in most dances of the world since he was born. Unfortunately, an unjust incarceration disallowed him from learning modern dance steps, so he has no idea how to do the electric slide, macarena or the supaman.

• Adam is an adept piano player.

• Adam is very good at chess. He once beat Gary Kasparov's great uncle at a game. The great uncle was no grandmaster, but it allows Adam to say "I once beat Kasparov."

• Adam is very good at riding horses, because it was the relevant mode of transportation in his day.
