Village Renaissance Building - Al & Abby's Apartment

An average middle class apartment, it's populated with decidedly not middle class furniture. A solitary red suede couch occupy the immediate living room, with a battered coffee table and side tables as it's companion. A decent sized TV sits on a cupboard with a stereo, DVD player. The kitchen sports a relic from the 70's, with matching chairs that still seem to be in decent condition. The two bedrooms off the hall are distinguishable from the other, one bearing a gold cross nailed above the door, the other not.

In the corner of the living room is an ornate cage on a bird stand, a blue budgie within it's depths. In another corner is a massive cat tree house, and often occupied by a black cat with a red suede collar. It looks barely lived in, like the owners are not yet investing their effort quite yet to move in.

Morning after moving in. Brian's taken off, to go find breakfast since there's nothing unpacked, and nothing in the fridge. The temptation to stay in bed the whole day, to hide beneath the blankets is strong, very strong. But that will get her nowhere. Nto to mention as asskicking from Liz. She emerges from her room, boxers, long sleeved shirt, bathrobe and mussy hair, heading for the fridge and the bottles of water there. Work later. Get life in order. Get back on track. Shove everything deep down and try to get on with it.

There's a feeling of dread deep down in Magnes' stomach, he doesn't want to do this, he'd be happy just avoiding Abby for the rest of his life, and not have to face the girl he couldn't protect. But here he is, standing in front of her door, then takes the first step; knocking.

Brian forgot a key? The shotgun's unpacked, already in place beside the door so it's with her hand on it that she looks through the peephole. The security is tight here, but even then.. Oh look, it's Magnes. For a moment she just looks, before her hand comes off the barrel of the weapon, released, and she ties her robe closed so she can open the door. "Magnes" She's put on a few pounds. No longer captive thin, just had a bad flu didn't eat for a couple weeks thin.

"It's nice to see you…" Magnes says, trailing off and barely keeping eye contact. It's not his usually awkward attitude, he just seems to have a deep air of shame about him. "Hiro Nakamura and some other guy said I should talk to you." Then, the tension breaks a bit, a realization flooding to the surface again. "Hiro's real…"

'Umm" Right. hiro Nakamura? That's who? "You can uh.. come in" Some other guy. Abby moves to the side, let him in, a glance beyond. everything is still boxes though furniture is out to be sat upon. "Brian's gone out to get breakfast and some milk" She's not her usual self either. The door's locked behind him before she starts making her way back to the kitchen to take her pills and drink some water.

Magnes walks in, watching her, lingering on the robe for a moment as he walks away, before he rapidly shakes his head. "I was gonna stay away from you, I couldn't really face you, knowing that I let you down so much, and what you had to go through. But they told me that it'd really help you if we spoke or something." he explains, tone growing more casual as he remembers that Abby doesn't bite, but he still seems a bit distracted. "Still can't believe Hiro's a real person… Ando too. Man, Ando's dead…"

"Who told you that? That it would help me, to talk to you" Everyone thinks talking is going to help her. She knows one thing that will help her and she was going to have someone take her this evening. Her scooter had been stuffed away someplace safe and we being deposited on her doorstep tomorrow. For now, she was sticking with Brian's help to get around.

"This guy, I kinda forgot his name, I think it starts with a T?" Magnes asks, shrugging as he tries to find somewhere to sit. "Hey, Abby, are we still friends? I mean, after everything that happened, is there any way things can go back to how they were?"

"Teo" Tay-oh. Tay-doh-roh. She throws her head back and with it water and a pill, swallowing as she glances to Magnes. "Oh Magnes, why wouldn't we be friends? Things can't… go back to what they were, I wish they could. I lay up at night praying that they will but I know it's a futile prayer and I can only go forward. But .. we're still friends."

"Since we escaped, it's all I think about." Magnes admits, laying his head against the couch once he sits. "I keep thinking about my powers, if I had more control, I could have protected you. But you had to go through so much stuff, and I was /right there/. If I was more alert, we would have never gotten captured." He looks up at her, smiling slightly. "That's why your sister is gonna teach me how to fight."

"Magnes, I don't have a sister…" There's confusion on her face. "And what did I tell you, when they took us and we were sitting in the warehouse that first time. What do you remember?"

Magnes takes a moment to think, as if this is somehow a right or wrong question. "That my only job was to stay alive…?" he cautiously asks, not so sure if that's the right answer, but he's sure she said something like that. "And um, your sister is my room-mate, Elvis. She said she's your sister."

"Oh. Elvis. She's not really my sister, just.. sister in the whole… we both have bikes" But the blonde nods. "To stay alive. I wasn't expecting you to save me Magnes, or protect me. I told you that too. That you couldn't, these aren't.. comic book villains, that they're real and they'd break rules, that there'd be no rules. No Nagnes, I'm not upset or mad at you, i'm not angry, and we're still friends. I promise"

Magnes' face lights up, then he suddenly leaps from the couch, weight light, then reaches out to hug her when he lands. "That means a lot to me, Abby. I was afraid everything was just, over, no more you, or Isabelle, or anyone, and I finally started to feel like I had a lot of friends. But, about the comic book thing… um… Hiro Nakamura is a real person…"

There's hands coming up and a yelp, not enjoying the fast sudden movement and he's blocked, pushed back with trembling hands. "Magnes!" Anxiety ratcheting up mile high in the blonde woman's face. "Don't, please don't touch me"

"Oh." Magnes backs up, though he doesn't appear hurt or surprised, he seems to understand. "Sorry, you've been through a lot, I wasn't thinking." He feels tension rising, even if it's just in his head, so he walks back to the couch, taking a seat. "You don't deserve anything that happened, of all people…"

"Yes well" She didn't deserve it, but it happened anyways. Abby retreats towards the kitchen, returning with two bottles of water. One for Magnes, the other for herself. Once passed over, the blonde worries at the lid of hers with her fingers, nervous, tense, the whole gamut. "Nothings going to happen. I went to the cops. They took everything I could offer, took the bullet out of my leg and… nothing. Their bosses won't let them look at a warrant or go to Staten Island and arrest Logan or Muldoon, or the other guy" It gives her a headache just thinking about it. Her self worth taking a hit that day. "I was going to ask you to go in, give them your statement, ask if you could lend your voice and press charges but it's pointless now"

"Abby, I can stop Logan and Muldoon, well, maybe not myself, but Abby…" Magnes' face lights up, unscrewing the water bottle. "Hiro is real, we can put these guys away, if not in jail, then some island or something, I don't know. But there's no way these guys are getting away with what they did to you." he assures her, apparently really believing in this 'Hiro' person.

"Magnes, I don't know who this Hiro person is that your talking about" Her forefinger and thumb rub the bridge of her nose. "And I don't WANT them on some island. I WANT them to sit in a fucking cell and look at the door to it and know that SOMEONE else is in control of them and that they're at their mercy. That's what I want Magnes. I want Logan's tongue cut from his mouth and no one give him anything for the pain and swelling, make him try to.. drink" Tears well in the blondes eyes. "I think you need to go Magnes, you can visit another day. I need to put myself together before Liz gets here and brian's going to be upset to see me like this and you here. He'll blame you"

"I'm sorry Abby, I didn't mean to…" Magnes stands up, seeing the tears, then he just walks to the door. "I'm sorry, I really am." But who knows what he's apologizing for as he reaches for the knob, looking back at her, getting one last good gaze, who knows when they'll see each other again.

"For God's sake would everyone STOP saying that. Stop saying your sorry" Abby angrily shakes her head, turning off towards the rest of the apartment. "See you around Magnes" He's waved off. She'll lock the door after he's gone, for now, she just needs to go be in another room.

"I'll give you the present I didn't have the chance to give, the next time I see you." is the last thing Magnes says, not sure what else he could possibly say to her, he's never had to deal with such a situation. After that, he just closes the door, on his way to play Incredible Hulk on the rooftops. He has to blow off some steam.
