Scene Title Jaws of A Monster
Synopsis Eve realizes that she's lost more than just her ability to the H5N10 virus.
Date March 5, 2010

Mas Mechanics

//There is a large gate that surrounds the warehouse. A padlock normally on keeping them shut. Cracked and destroyed pavement surrounds the area. Just inside are a few abandoned cars and motorcycles. A garage door can be seen and is open, showing a 1967 black and red mustang. Various tools and machines can be seen in the place that point to this place being a auto shop at one point.

When you walk through the door from the garage there is a huge room filled with a few tables, couches and chairs. The windows have large, dark red curtains covering them. Candles sit all around the place, waiting to be lit.

Through another door, a makeshift kitchen can be found. With refrigerator, microwave, stove, and a table or two with some chairs.//

There must be some way out of here

Said the joker to the thief

The moon shines brightly down upon the Ruins of Midtown. A few of the lost animals make their presence known in the night, howls and barks from stray dogs and the like. Though the Ruins are lit up brightly tonight, there are shadows all around. Most of them surrounding the building called Mas Mechanics. Like the jaws of some unspeakable monster are slowly swallowing the place.

Inside of the building, it’s quiet eerily so. The Huskies, Rex and Jax lay in the front room, sleeping soundly. Nanai slithers around in her glass case, flicking her tongue at the glass every so often. The shadows creep into the room as the moon is covered by dark clouds.

There's too much confusion

I can't get no relief

Inside of the main bedroom, Eve’s bedroom a figure can be seen withering and panting in her sleep. Twisting head from side to side, the woman’s mouth opens wide as she twists and turns, as if she’s possessed by a demon. Sweat drips from all over her body, soaking the bed around her. Her left hand clenches hard as her body jerks and then with a gasp the oracle wakes up. Flying to an upright position the woman looks around the room wildly before her mouth opens and a loud scream emits from the woman’s body.

Her eyes are wide and bloodshot as she stares ahead, the dogs are awakened and they jerk awake. Jumping onto Eve’s closed door, barking and desperately trying to get inside to help their master, the dogs whine and bark and scratch at the door.

Businessmen, they drink my wine

Plowmen dig my earth

Eve’s scream becomes a wail, of sorrow and confusion. Her eyes are not fading from the milk white color they usually do once she’s coming out of a dream of the future, no.. because she didn’t dream of the future. In fact.. she dreamt of nothing.

It was like she was falling down a never ending well. There was no light and there was no future. Tears roll down the woman’s face as her wailing turns into a fit of coughing and blood spits out from her mouth and onto the already dark red bed spread. Sobs wreck her body as Eve holds up her left hand to stop the blood from escaping her mouth.

None of them along the line

Know what any of it is worth

As Eve tries to bring both hands up to her face, the woman blinks in shock and looks down at her right hand, which refuses to move. Her whole right arm actually, the dark haired woman attempts to move any part of her right arm and she can’t, her fingers won’t curl, shoulder won’t roll.. nothing.

“Fuck.. fuck.. fuck..” She says over and over again as she drags herself out of the bed, her right arm hangs limp at her side as she falls into the wall and uses her left arm to support herself. Her black nightgown drenched in sweat and clinging to her.

No reason to get excited

The thief, he kindly spoke

There are many here among us

Who feel that life is but a joke

As Eve makes her way to the door leading into the hallway, she passes a window as she does the clouds move from covering the moon allowing for light to flood into the room. The seer looks out and up into the night’s sky, tears still running down her face. She drags her foot along as she pulls herself to the door, skin clammy and paler then usual.

She reaches the part of the wall where her piano is resting against and she moves around it. Her left hand pushing the keys of the piano, releasing an off beat and dark sounding tune through her room. The dogs continue to bark as their master has not gotten to the door yet. She winces in pain as she coughs again and then she’s at the door and pulling it open. “«Stay».” She breathes out to the dogs in Italian and the animals immediately sit on the ground, watching Eve as she wavers and pushes through the door and into the hallway.

But you and I, we've been through that

And this is not our fate

Eve’s gaze falls onto Nanai’s glass case but she continues to move forward, though where she is going.. who can tell? The singer soon enters the Oracle Room and slides to the floor, looking around to all of the prophecies that she painted, drew and wrote into song. “All gone.. all gone..” she says softly, more to herself then anyone else.

The paintings of the scientist she’s recently dreamt about stare back at her as Eve crawls to the center of the room and looks up towards the windows. The room begins to spin as Eve’s head lolls to and fro. She closes her eyes, as the body shakes and her legs twitch. She looks at each of the faces staring back at her and her bottom lip quivers.

So let us not talk falsely now

The hour is getting late

Rex and Jax pad into the room and then lay down next to the seer, whimpering and whining at her pain and distress. Her hair disheveled and falls into her face as she looks down to the floor.

The artist’s head slowly lifts and she reaches out for a paintbrush, reaching far and almost falling over. She grabs it and holds it tight to her chest, as if her ability to dream and paint the future will just rush back to her by holding the paintbrush, as if she would absorb it and get her ability back.

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view

While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too

How can she help everyone if she can’t see into the future? How will she warn them? How will she find out where Zimmerman and the other scientist are? She’ll have to relay on her more mundane skills, the ones that she hadn’t focused on because of her dependency on her ability. Having this blessing and curse for more than half of her life has made her lazy.. this is..

This is your test. This is the chance you get to prove yourself, too long have you been lazy and dependent on your gift. Now is when your true colors will show. Let it begin… The voice echoes in Eve’s head, perhaps the voice of the monster haunting Mas Mechanics.

Outside in the distance, a wildcat did growl

The words Let it begin echo in her head over and over as she rocks back and forth, left arm clasped around her knees while her right drags along on the floor, back and forth, back and forth. She shivers and coughs again, that is followed by a loud sneeze.

The seer looks sick.. she looks weak. As if the monster can sense this, the jaws of the monster close over the warehouse again, clouds covering the moon. And as the last big of light is snuffed out of the room, Eve’s eyes stare ahead wide, hair in her face. She sits.. silent.. silent.. the darkness washing over her. And there she stays.

Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl

All along the watchtower
