Mason Chesterfield is the father of Cat and according to Edward Ray an old acquaintance of the physicist's, despite their divergent ages.
Character History:
Mason Andrew Chesterfield is from old money, born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. Family fortunes are somewhere between $250 - $350 million. He began working for an insurance firm in 1978 as a low level executive and over the next twelve years rose to the position of CEO he still holds, acquiring majority control of the company along the way and leading it to unprecedented levels of profitability. He then named himself Chairman of the Board.
In private, Mason Chesterfield worked as an operative of Primatech since 1988 when he was approached by Arthur Petrelli. Mason worked as a silent partner to Primatech's endeavors as one of the single most bright minds in his research and development teams.
In the early 1990s Mason placed his gift to use by joining Arthur's scientific research teams working to research and catalogue Evolved powers, quietly assisting in Primatech's development over the years up until Arthur's presumed death. The passing of Arthur Petrelli never truly sat well with Mason, and while his work with Primatech silently continued, it was the bomb that finally made him unable to stay his hand.
Fearing the worst, Mason withdrew from active research in Primatech, and was only shortly thereafter contacted by representatives of Arthur Petrelli, informing the loyal genius that he was indeed still alive, and that there was work to be done. He has since been working with Alison Meier on a replacement to the Formula.
Evolved Ability (Supercognition)
Mason Chesterfield has superhuman mental acumen, which is defined by enhanced intuition, pattern solving, information storage and retrieval, and logical and philosophical structuring. His ability to predict probable outcomes of tactical and strategic scenarios borders on the capabilities of Doctor Edward Ray, though is less reactionary and requires more conscious effort and study. This heightened cognitive power grants Mason a photographic memory that is entirely on par with his daughter Catherine's ability, leading to his great disappointment that his offspring has a diminished capacity of his own mental capabilities.
