Parking Structure Collapse

A parking garage collapsed in Flushing, Queens, at approximately 4:54 PM Tuesday afternoon, flattening cars and showering the street outside with debris. Emergency crews and civilian volunteers — some using search and rescue dogs — sifted through the rubble, looking for people trapped beneath the twisted metal and slabs of broken concrete. Five survivors were pulled from the wreckage and transferred to the Flushing Medical Center where they are listed as in stable condition. Paramedics later recovered two additional bodies from the scene.

Authorities refused to comment on what they believe might have caused the collapse, but have stated that an investigation is currently underway.
