SHANGHAI — Representatives of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) confirmed today that a massive explosion occurred at an Antarctic research station owned by Chinese tech conglomerate Praxis Heavy Industries. According to SCAR researchers, the explosion was detected at 3:30 am GMT and located at the Taiyang Facility located in Terra Nova Bay. The blast was visible up to twenty miles away and caused a sizable separation of antarctic ice into the ocean.

Praxis Heavy Industries issued a press release four hours later indicating an accident at the research facility and confirmed that all 37 hands are believed to be lost. Praxis Heavy Industries will be mounting an investigation into the explosion to determine if foul play may have been involved.

This tragic news comes just two days after an announcement by the US Justice Department that an investigation into potentially illegal practices by Praxis Heavy Industries performed on US Soil. The Chinese government has not yet commented on the US investigation.
