03/01/18 -- Local Orphanage Destroyed In Fire

Wednesday, March 1, 2018

NEW YORK — A fire swept through Saint Margaret’s School for Girls early Wednesday morning. The Safe Zone Cooperative said that the woman in charge of the orphanage, Sister Antonella Esposito, was killed in the blaze, but all of the sixty-four children under Saint Margaret’s care were miraculously accounted for by late Wednesday afternoon.

The orphanage, which operated out of what was once the Grace Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, was completely destroyed in the inferno.

A spokesperson for the military police doesn’t yet know what sparked the blaze, but fire investigators are searching for clues, he added.
