Scene Title White Knight in Shining Armor
Synopsis Harrison gets visitor while hiding in the Brooklyn Libraray.
Date June 8, 2010

Brooklyn Public Library

The central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library was designed to resemble an open book, two wings stretching out along the bordering streets, with the main entrance located at their hinge. Inside is the heart of one of the nation's largest public library systems; the Central Library alone contains over 1.5 million books, magazines, and other materials. It also contains the Brooklyn Collection, an assortment of references and ephemera that chronicle the history of the borough, and a Multilingual Center for non-English speakers and linguistic scholars. A cafe on the first floor sells coffee and snacks, while a restaurant on the third floor (open weekdays only) sells cafeteria-style meals. Internet access is freely available throughout the building.

With the library still closed due to the blizzard, Magnes chooses to show up at around Noon. The sight is probably the last thing Harrison is expecting. He's perched up on a high bookshelf, wearing all white, down to his boots other than the black rubber, and his long red scarf blowing with the slightest breeze. He's masked, there's not even a hint of skin visible, no eye or mouth holes or anything. The mask is zipped to his shirt, and his white gloved hand is holding a book he picked up from a random shelf; The Art of War. "I know what it's like to do something good and get caught on camera. They say a lot of things, but all that matters is that you did something good." comes from his modified voice, a few voices mixed into one. In his other hand is another scarf, folded and held tightly. "But there's a chance for you to be safe and do some good."

It has been a scary week for Harrison. He has been hiding from his friends, his family, and the entire world. He is dressed in jeans, an oversized hoodie that is currently pulled up. He is focused on the computer before him as he scans the internet for any other news of him or what he did back in London. When he hears the man speak, he jumps up from his desk and swings around looking up. His eyes narrow as he listens to the mix of voices. "Listen I have heard stories and rumors about what happens to people like me. How do I know you not someone from the government here to take me away?" He begins to slowly take a step away from the perched man.

"That's a good question." Magnes agrees as he keeps his perched position, at least for a moment more before jumping down and landing on the table, crouching again. "If I were the government, you'd already be power dampened, tranq'd, and in the back of a van. Not to mention with my own ability, you wouldn't be going anywhere. Talking isn't necessary with the government, so you can trust me here. I've been in your position, but I didn't have people lining up to help me out. I'm here to help, but the question is, do you wanna listen?"

When the man in white comes down to his level, Harisson takes another step away from him. "That is not comforting man." He looks to the left and right as he considers him a moment, "I am willing to listen." He begins to walk around the desk to keep it between himself and Magnes. "How do you mean I could do some good? I am sure because I am unregistered they will arrest me when the see me. I will not let them do experiments on me."

"I can give you contact with someone named Rebel, he can tell you the truth about everything going on in the city, and protect you. We fight against what the government's doing to people like us, but you won't be forced to do anything that goes against your ethics, that's something I make sure Rebel knows, and you can too." Magnes casually rests his arms over his knees, staring at the younger of the two. "You don't have to wear a mask or anything, but you're a walking Silver Surfer, so you'll be fine."

"You could say I am more like Colossus I think. I can't fly and I sure as hell can't surf." He chuckles weakly as he watches the man in white curiously. "I do like to help people. I have heard stories of what they are doing and I don't like it." He sighs softly looking down at his hands, and then looks up back at you, "I am tired of having people look over my shoulder."

"It doesn't have to be that way. Like I said, you can be protected." Magnes sits the phone on the table, then the folded scarf. "All of our scarves are cut from the same cloth, kind of a symbolic type of thing. And this is a secure phone, Rebel will probably contact you if you agree to give this a chance. If it's not for you, you can back out, but for now, why don't you see what we're all about? And just so you know, I'm my own man before anyone else's, so if you ever need anything and you're not comfortable talking to anyone else about it, here's my number," He digs into the pocket of his white jeans, then offers a number he's already scribbled on a white piece of paper.

As he walks around from the desk, Harrison looks down at the phone and the scarf. He reaches out to take the scarf and begins to rub the material between his fingers and thumb. He takes the scarf and then the phone and looks at the man in white. "Something tells me you know my name…what do I call you…and this protected stuff? Do you guys have like a lair or something." He is still young and inexperienced next to someone like Magnes. He chuckles, "I have no idea what you call your stuff. Sorry if I sound ignorant. I am just a kid from Maine. I am willing to see what it is all about yet what do I do if someone comes after me? I am gonna fight. I won't be locked in some cage."

"Rebel will tell you everything you need to do, and how you'll be protected. You can call me White Knight. When you talk to Rebel about places to stay, tell him I said you can call me about that if he doesn't have anywhere for you." Magnes stands up straight on the table, which doesn't seem to strain very much under his weight, not that most people often even think about things like that in the midst of all the other weirdness going on. "I guess that's about it. You'll be fine."

"Ummmm." Harrison cocks his head to the side and says, "Thanks White Knight." He takes his number and takes the scarf as he wraps it around his neck. "I guess I will stay here out of sight until I get a call from this Rebel." He slides the phone and telephone number into his hoodie and says, "I guess…well just be safe dude." He runs his hands through his hair unsure of what to do or clearly still taken back by the name.

"Good luck, and don't hesitate to call me, no need to sleep in a library." Magnes pulls a small glass vial from what's apparently a belt under his shirt with two liquids separated, then throws it on the table which creates a large poof of white smoke. He can be heard coughing a bit, but when the smoke clears, he's gone.

He's still gotta work on that a bit.
