Central Park

Central Park has been, and remains, a key attraction in New York City, both for tourists and local residents. Though slightly smaller, approximately 100 acres at its southern end scarred by and still recovering from the explosion, the vast northern regions of the park remain intact.

An array of paths and tracks wind their way through stands of trees and swathes of grass, frequented by joggers, bikers, dog-walkers, and horsemen alike. Flowerbeds, tended gardens, and sheltered conservatories provide a wide array of colorful plants; the sheer size of the park, along with a designated wildlife sanctuary add a wide variety of fauna to the park's visitor list. Several ponds and lakes, as well as the massive Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, break up the expanses of green and growing things. There are roads, for those who prefer to drive through; numerous playgrounds for children dot the landscape.

Many are the people who come to the Park - painters, birdwatchers, musicians, and rock climbers. Others come for the shows; the New York Shakespeare Festival at the Delacorte Theater, the annual outdoor concert of the New York Philharmonic on the Great Lawn, the summer performances of the Metropolitan Opera, and many other smaller performing groups besides. They come to ice-skate on the rink, to ride on the Central Park Carousel, to view the many, many statues scattered about the park.

Some of the southern end of the park remains buried beneath rubble. Some of it still looks worn and torn, struggling to come back from the edge of destruction despite everything the crews of landscapers can do. The Wollman Rink has not been rebuilt; the Central Park Wildlife Center remains very much a work in progress, but is not wholly a loss. Someday, this portion of Central Park just might be restored fully to its prior state.

"So, he should be somewhere around here somewhere, I think. Last few people we asked said the park." Magnes says, from about five hundred feet in the air above Central Park. He has Delilah on his back, holding her securely with his arms and his ability. He's wearing a black buttoned up denim jacket with a pair of blue jeans and red inline skates.

"You alright back there?" He sounds more teasing than concerned, starting to quickly descend with nothing separating his skates and the concrete path.

Kendall is indeed in the park, and he's got a box on his lap filled with cards as he sits on a bench and looks through them all. Next to him on the bench is the discarded wrappers, proof evidence of his latest foray into the land of 'give me your money for useless stuff you want', aka a gaming store. Absorbed in reading the little descriptions on the cards, he doesn't notice anyone looking for him, either aerial or terrestrial. Or…. extraterrestrial, really.

Piggyback rides should be reserved for the ground! Delilah was a little hesitant about saddling up Magnes, but it seems to have worked out regardless. Her arms are wound around his shoulders like a vice, and though she knows that he would not let her fall out of the sky, there is that inherent human worry because humans were never meant for flight. It's Very Cold up here too, so Delilah, despite wearing her coat, is clinging to him like a koala whose toes are freezing off.

"I'm fine! Just get down! It's so cold up there! He should be around, just keep going."

"Hey! Link!" Magnes exclaims from the sky when it seems like they're gonna smack into the ground, but they quickly slow, and he lands right in front of Kendall's bench. This guy fits the description! "You're that Kendall guy, right? What kind of cards you got there?" He lets Delilah stay or leave from his back as she pleases, since her weight doesn't seem to hinder him at all. Though he keeps his hands under her thighs, just in case she's staying up there.

Kendall squeaks in a completely unmanly manner when some random guy flies out of the sky and lands in front of him, and there's another squawk as his box of cards falls down, scattering them everywhere. For those in the know, the cards are clearly identifiable as Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Sliding off the bench, he hastily snatches them up before the snow ruins them, then looks up warily without a word. Who are you and why do you know his name?

Delilah is so off. She stumbles down a second later, just about looking like she is going to wobble over and into a melting snowbank. "I don't know if I like winter flying- agh-" She looks cold as she adjusts her tilt and nudges Magnes aside to smile at Kendall. Her hands are quickly smoothing her skirt into a normal state, having been rumpled by the ride. Her hair too- which she pats down after another moment. "Hi! Sorry about that- he gets excited, I can't take him anywhere."

"My name's Magnes J. Varlane, I'm that guy from Twitter." Magnes introduces with a friendly smile, leaning down to offer his hand . "Hey, I just don't see what's so scary about flying anymore! I was holding you." he playfully retorts back at her.

Kendall has all his cards safely boxed again, and he puts the lid on it just in case. "Oh…" he looks from Magnes to Delilah, then his gaze drifts upwards towards where the two descended. "What the hell?" he squints at Delilah. "You're not an angel, are you?"

"I have a skirt on!" The redhead pushes at Magnes' arm playfully, keeping her eyes on Kendall. "No, no. Magnes has tricks, that's all. Easier than trying to get around when there's so much slick ice. Though- yeah- its cold." Her hands pat her skirt again, as if that might warm everything up. "I think I'll pass next time, unless I've got pants…"

"I think skirts suit you, even though it's cold out." Magnes looks back to Kendall, pointing a finger at the cards as an invisible force starts to lift them up. "I collect Pokemon for fun, but it's been a long time since I played Yu-Gi-Oh. These things have changed a lot." He starts to open the box, pulling a few cards out. "A spell card? I thought these were called magic cards."

Kendall appears ill at ease as Magnes starts going through his stuff, but when he doesn't automatically ridicule him for it quite the opposite, actually he relaxes a hair. "Well they used to be called magic, but then Magic: the Gathering filed some stupid lawsuit and copyrighted the word magic, or whatever. Not sure how that works, but whatever." he eyes the floating cards, then glances at Delilah. "You look good in a skirt." he mumbles, turning red.

"Haha, you guys win." Dee glances over at the cards, though gives Magnes a small glare. "You shouldn't just take things, you know. Lucky he's not a brute or he mighta popped you one for that." Not that she's terribly different sometimes. "How does one copyright a word, I wonder?"

"Sorry, I wasn't gonna hurt them, I know the importance of keeping things in mint condition. My issue of Amazing Fantasy 15 will arrive in a few days." Magnes starts laying the cards out in the air one by one, until the entire deck is floating in front of him, and he's looking everything over while rubbing his chin. "I think it's the context of the word they copyright. Like, 'This word can't be used on cards by anyone except us', or 'Your rabbits can't say doc'."
ORDER: It is now your pose.

"Money, and lots of it." Kendall rolls his eyes. "With enough money, you can do pretty much anything you want." he kinda stares at the cards still floating in the air, shooting Magnes a slightly uneasy look. Although, his reaction is certainly not as bad as he would have a week or two ago.

"That's just silly." Delilah says her piece on the subject, having also been taking note of Kendall's reaction to Magnes using his ability so openly. "See? Remember what I mentioned about having friends like him?" She chuckles. "It's pretty weird to see it up close, huh?"

"You don't know any Evolved?" Magnes curiously asks, starting to stack the cards up again, then slides them in the box, closes it, and floats it back ove r to kendall. "Are you Evolved? It's alright if you are, I mean, I'm not gonna throw a rotten tomato at you. And by the way, if you save anyone on TV, people might just do that."

"I…" well it seems he still has an issue admitting it. "I, uh… do know… but.." Kendall's eyes dart back and forth between the two, then he snatches his box as if trying to protect it.

"It doesn't matter if you are. I am, I'll admit it." To them, anyway. She probably would not say it in a crowd of people, however. Delilah scuffs a heel onto the sidewalk, tilting her head to Magnes. "Magnes is a viral celebrity. You might have seen him doing his godzilla impression over in Japan. He got back a few days ago, and since we'd been talking on and off I thought you two should meet."

"And that whole Chinatown thing that FRONTLINE mostly took credit for, but ah well." Magnes shrugs, holding a hand down at the snow, then lifts a chunk of it, compressing it into a tight snowball floating above his hand. "I am, and if you are, I'll help you with it. I've come a long way since I first discovered my ability at fifteen or sixteen. But if you're not, I can take you flying and show you what it's like!"

Kendall immediately steps back at that. "Ah, no thanks. I mean, if anyone saw me… I'd get in.. well, a lot of trouble. It'd just… very bad. It'd be very bad." he darts another look at Delilah, stepping away again.

Whatever he's thinking, Delilah isn't picking up on it. But she does lean over to Magnes and mutter something, blinking up at him for a second's worth of reaction before turning her attention back to Kendall. "Well if you ever need to get somewhere fast, call him, he'll totally help you out."

"I know lots of people like us. I think the most fun ability to combine with is the speedster. It's a little rough, but the night I met her, we were super speed flying." Magnes lets the ball drop into his palm, then tosses it against a tree. He doesn't seem to visibly react to Delilah's whisper, though he does smile a bit warmer. "You know what we could have used? Xavier's school."

Kendall snorts softly. "Seriously? The X-men had all /sorts/ of issues. I think I'd rather not have to deal with supervillians and aliens and all that crap. Life's rough enough with even your own family.." he breaks off and falls silent at that, looking away.

"Yeah, that's just high school only with powers. Been there, done that." Delilah seesaws her head on her neck. "Family ain't always the ones that pop you out, just keep that in mind." Magnes knows that now too.

"My parents ditched me in a dystopian setting with Ninja Turtle overtones, and I had to get told by a woman who looked ilke a hot Agent Skully." Magnes gently reaches for Delilah's hand, then heads to take a seat on the bench. "I don't know about aliens, but supervillains aren't as bad as they sound when you've got friends. It's when you do it alone they become a real threat."

"My dad said the Evolved should be rounded up and shot." Kendall mutters, staring down at his box of cards.
See? Delilah holds onto Magnes' hand idly, and does not sit down with him. "You shouldn't bother about what he says, unless you agree. I have the inkling that you don't."

"He doesn't hate you, that's something you should remember. It's the fear, fear really poisons people's minds, it makes them do and say crazy things, completely irrationally. I can understand fear, and if I didn't have my ability, I think I'd be afraid too. Even with my ability I'm a bit afraid." Magnes doesn't let Delilah's hand go, even when he sits, he just seems to like holding it. "We've all read comics, we know the potential of abilities. But there's always someone just as strong, or stronger, and we can't let fear take control of us."

Kendall eyes the hand holding and frowns, but doesn't say anything in regards to that. "Well I don't think I want to risk my dad thinking that of me. For all I know, he might." he looks from one to the other again, then shakes his head. "I just want to be /normal/, y'know?" and he turns away and starts walking off. Then he remembers something and turns around. "Nice to meet you." ah, that thing he remembered was his /manners/.
