Evolved Ability

David is a classic psychometrist. He receives psychic impressions from objects by touching them and the longer he does, the more knowledge he gains. Objects pick up impressions by those who use them and the longer the association, the more likely he'll learn about the owner. Other strong impressions are caused by traumatic events involving the object.

So, for instance, an arrowhead buried for a thousand years and crafted solely to kill an animal will not have very strong impressions though he'll be able to tell it's old. A child's favorite doll that she slept with for ten years would have very strong impressions of the girl. A murder weapon would be heavily affected by the event; not guns as the bullet is what's responsible but a knife would resonate from both murderer and victim. And he learned - and learned well - never to touch anything from 'ground zero' as the one time he accidentally did, he passed out.

He has learned to control his ability and doesn't need to wear gloves in order to not 'read' an object but those with very strong resonances - such as items from ground zero - can get past his defenses and force themselves on him until he can get his 'shields' back up.

Academia

David has cultivated a broad knowledge base to help in his chosen profession. Art, archaeology, history, numismatics, furniture… He's learned enough to at least sound like he knows what he's talking about in many fields. And since his days in college, has even picked up practical information to add to that. He usually relies on his psychometric ability to fill in the details which also increases his actual knowledge. His specialty is, unsurprisingly, concerned with Israel and the Middle East. And what he doesn't know, he knows how to find out through research and computer skills.

Being Israeli as well as American, David is perfectly fluent in both English and Hebrew. In addition, though he has an accent, he's almost as good with Arabic.

David is no Mossad agent but every Israeli citizen serves in the Israeli Defense Forces for two to three years. He's got the standard training in combat (krav maga, guns of various sorts, etc) and has kept in practice, even improving on what he was taught with further private lessons.

Music

Attending synagogue as a child taught David one thing which he is very proud of; he has a beautiful singing voice. Unlike his expertise with antiquities, singing is something that he's worked at and while no Caruso or even a Buble, he's quite talented and could probably make a living at it, perhaps as a Cantor. He has absolutely no skill with instruments however.
