Background

Gideon d'Sarthe has been an international influence for decades; he inherited a small, white-collar lordship as a young man, and has created his own criminal empire on its grave. For many years his people were stationed in several cities, including Chicago and New Orleans; clashes with other syndicates and rival gangs were commonplace and his hand typically closed in. The one rival he could never best was Daniel Linderman, and the two clashed on a regular basis; whether over territory, property, or people, they were very much wolves.

Daniel's been dead for years.

In Linderman's absence, and the onset of the civil war, d'Sarthe collected back in Europe, coalescing his people until the war fired its last shots.

Wolves never ignore a weak link; Gideon moved himself back in like an indolent tiger, sprawling back into his old spaces and once more into the fire and flame of New York City. The Safe Zone- - and those ravaged places surrounding it- - soon suffered a silent, constricting presence, familiar in its steel and whip in keeping order within the criminal element.
