Background

Kyle and Kyla Renautas were born September 7 1983 to Swiss parents Luca and Elena. Luca and Elena Renautas were formerly employed by the Company and later Pinehearst as geneticists. They were swept up by the Institute in 2010 to continue their work on the "Eden" project.

The Renautas' owned a large technology company named — unsurprisingly — Renautas. It began its life as an undiscovered shell corporation for Pinehearst and would appear that the Renautas' were loyally doing Arthur Petrelli's work, laying the groundwork for his return during their time at the Company. After Pinehearst's fall the Institute funneled money into Renautas to research Compass, which was used in their robot designs and for Retriever teams. As a foreign corporation Renautas has maintained operations since the fall of the Institute and is currently headed by a board of directors since the passing of the company Patriarch and Matriarch. Renautas has contracts with Yamagato Industries relating to their Compass technology work.

Kyle and Kyla were both recognized as SLC-E with a paired ability to telepathically communicate with one another across any distance and also telepathically serve as a "medium" for a person they are touching. Research on their ability was conducted by Jean Martin Luis as he had experience with fraternal and identical twins with shared abilities.

Kyle and Kyla's parents are believed to have died in the massacre outside of the Arcology after they escaped along with the Ferrymen. Video footage of the drone attack shows them being gunned down trying to escape.
