Background

Tybalt is a stray cat found in an alley on Staten Island by Nick Ruskin and brought back with him to the Dispensary. The cat reminds him of his neighbors the Carlisles' cat from his childhood growing up in the East End of London.

Tybalt II was full grown but young, healthy if malnourished, and clearly owned at some point, given his affectionate and friendly nature when approached by Nick. The affection didn't keep the creature from tearing up Nick's flesh on the motorcycle ride "home" nor during the subsequent bath.
