Scene Title Balance
Synopsis A drive.
Date March 21, 2009

I walk the line of the disappointed. I celebrate when I'm in pain.
My heart and mind can be disjointed. I built a bed in this hole I made.

The windows are down in her car, as Katherine Marks, dressed in tank top and jeans, with her hair loose and flailing behind her as she cruises up around corners and curse. Wherever she is heading, it seems to just go up and up. The scenery is beautiful, even in the overcast weather.

I recognize that I'm damaged. I sympathize that you are too.
But I wanna breathe without feelin' so self-conscious,
but it's hard when the world's starin' at you.

The speed at which she is taking the corners suggest that perhaps she might be exceeding the speed limit by a few miles per hour. She reaches the peak and pulls into the blacktopped parkway. She sits in the car for a long moment as she looks out over the side of the mountain down onto the city below.

Another piece of the puzzle, that doesn't fit. You throw your arms up, you're so damn sick of it
What are you working for? What are you searching for? Love.
You won't be thinking of cars when you're on your death bed and dyin'
You'll only be thinkin' of what you were paying for, what you were praying for? Love.

She finally opens the car door and steps out. She walks over to the edge, where the blacktop ends and drops fairly quickly, only a guardrailing to prevent those who get too close from a certain death. She brings her hand up and pushes her hair behind her, combing her fingers through to keep it out of her sunglass covered eyes.

You join the line of the getting richer. You keep your pace but it's movin' slow.
You are defined by all that you have hoarded but you're surprised it doesn't fill up the hole.

She realizes that alot of her life is determined by balance. When she does something that most would not consider to be morally right, she finds the opportunity to find another opportunity to do something that most would consider to be good. For herself, good vs. bad just isn't all that cut and dry. She tends to live in shades of grey. Where the balance is not always going to be there.

She has to create the balance in her life, just as everyone else. Victor Childs got Sylar, but at what cost? Oleander Thesputin regained his wife and children, and but only after he lost them and himself — yet still he's afraid to touch them. Miranda Dobson is back and doing just fine, and yet 35 teenagers..

I'll never be what I see on the tv screen.
I just keep dreaming of what I'm never gonna be.
I can't think of a better way to waste my time then try.

Where's the balance there? How can that even out? They thought they were doing something good, but already the blame is shifting and it may be there what they've done it for naught. Her eyes look up towards the sky, as she thinks someone has a lot of work to do to make that even out in the balance of things. So, whoever is up there.. let's get to it.

What are you hurtin' for? What are you searching for? Love.
You won't be thinking of cars when you're on your death bed and dyin'.

She walks back over to her car and slips into the driver's seat. The car gets started and she pulls back out onto the road and makes her way down the hill. The wind that blows through her hair, signifying all that she has built up inside her flowing from her and being left up on that hilltop.

You won't be thinkin' of cars when you're on your death bed and dyin'
You'll only be thinkin' of what are you workin' for.
What are you waitin' for?

She does, after all, have a job to do. Just every now and then she has to go back to that hilltop to visit with her conscience for a few minutes.
