Background

Brynn (Ferguson) Cresswell in Bright is actually a relatively normal teen. She was born deaf to teen parents, put in the foster care system, and the woman with whom she lived was well versed in dealing with special needs children. Brynn was an overall sweet-tempered baby, and clearly smart. She learned sign readily enough and although it meant some specialized tutoring she was eligible for that through schools. Brynn was put up for adoption and rapidly taken in by a couple in Poughkeepsie. Greg and Vicki Cresswells raised her and another adopted little girl with different special needs in suburban middle-class ease. Art and photography were strong interests and passions from the time she was a small child, so when she then manifested a Tier 0 chromakinetic ability, it was simply an extension of her passions. She's just your basic all-around kid trying to go to college and make a career doing something she loves.

She is, however, constantly fascinated nowadays by the world around her. Having spent most of her childhood deaf, she had no idea how many subtleties of sound there were in the world until she was about 12. Her parents found a healer who was willing to take a look at her hearing situation and determined that he could fix it, so just before her 13th birthday Brynn found herself no longer deaf. The world she knew took an interesting turn — you know all those things most people take for granted? She didn't. She had three years of speech therapy to learn how to talk, and she still doesn't always sound quite as one might expect. And she still has a tendency to sign if her hands aren't full.
