Background

Lynette was part of a team that came to Argentina to help evacuate people and do relief aid type work. It was there that she met Mateo and fell in love with him, despite the fact that he was keeping a very big secret from her. But it was that love that inspired him to leave Argentina with her and whisk away to New York. They married shortly after moving there. With her father's help, she became a successful investor and venture capitalist and became known for making savvy business decisions and for being charitable with her wealth. She and Mateo were happy for a time, and saw a long and beautiful life together ahead of them. But those plans were shattered when Mateo was murdered in their home. She was too late to save him, but not too late to say goodbye. He died in her arms. She had learned earlier that same week that she was pregnant, but never did figure out how to tell him.
Her father moved in with her once she told him about all of this, and he helped her stay on her feet. And helped her with the struggle of a new baby while she was still mourning the loss of her husband. In 2012, she is still working through that. She is still known to be a charitable person and business-savvy, but she hard is seen anywhere, except the little house she and Mateo had bought with an eye for fixing it up together.
She works on that alone now.
Her son, Manuel, manifested early— another moment she was glad her father was around for. The pair of them are teaching the young boy about how to manage those powers. Lynette is thankful for what they turned out to be— force fields powered by electricity— it helps her feel like he'll always be okay. Losing him, too, would be too much.
She met a version of her husband from another timeline and fell in love with him all over again. It was as easy as looking at him. They married soon after and had another child, Evie. They built a good life together and for years lived happily ever after. But it was not to be ever after, as their son was kidnapped and taken through the timelines to another time and away from them. Now she helps Liz and Magnes make their way home because their friend and oracle, Eve Mas, promised them their son was at the end of this particular journey.

Gentle. Lynette has known great love and great loss, it's taught her to be freer with her compassion and her kindness. She's not a fighter, not a hero, just a caretaker. She feels the weight of her lost love deeply, and it leaves her feeling hollow and fragile, like the last leaf clinging to an autumn tree. (She is sad as shit, you guys.)

With the loss of her son and the hard timeline that followed her own, she has been starting to revert to the person she once was— harder, more distant, walled off. It's only the presence of Mateo and Eve that keeps her from reverting entirely, even though she feels like closing down is the only way to survive what they're going through.

Evolved Ability

Lynette is something like a lightning rod, drawing electricity into her almost always. She can store electricity and act like a battery when needed. She need to release this built up energy once a day, or it will happen on its own and in an uncontrolled fashion. She cannot embody her element, though and barely uses it offensively. But she can fire bolts of lightning from herself. When she does, the air around her heats like a natural lightning bolt, causing a roll of thunder as well as making it dangerous to be close to her. Things on her person aren't affected, but as the air superheats, it affects the environment/objects around her (grass, paper, carpet, etc).

Lynette and Mateo's powers were swapped during their escape from her original timeline.

Her portals are barely controllable and Lynette works hard at not letting it create on its own. But so too, she has to work hard at creating them when and as she wants to. It is easier for her to create two at once than to create only one. But she is able to create portals between places she’s been, not just places she can see. There is a noise that comes with the ability and visions that keep her from sleeping.

The ability to cross timelines is intact, despite the power changing hands, but it is a true challenge for her even with help.
