Scene Title | Bowling For Dinner |
---|---|
Synopsis | Roselyn runs into Nicolas at the bowling alley and play a game. |
Date | January 17, 2009 |
The desk at the front accepts players' money and rents out the flat-bottomed shoes used in bowling alleys anywhere. Plaques from past tournaments held at Kingpin's line the posts on either side of the counter, along with an assortment of pictures and posters.
Thin red carpet covers the floor as far as the broad, shallow stairs leading down into the bowling pit. An assortment of vending and arcade game machines line the back wall; a counter and corresponding line of stools provide places for people to watch the games while they eat. Snacks are not, of course, allowed on the floor.
Below the stairs are the computers controlling the lanes and the games, with groups of chairs clustered about. Beyond them are the hardwood-paneled lanes, just waiting for pins to be set; behind, in the shadow of the counter, are shelves and shelves of bowling balls in all sizes and colors.
Nicolas sits at one of the lanes, slipping on some bowling shoes. He is tying the laces as he seems to be ready to bowl a game. The screen over the lane has yet to be set.
Roselyn walks into the bowling alley taking a look around. She walks over to the desk and pays for a few games and gets a pair of size 8 bowling shoes. She walks over to the lane she is assigned and takes off her shoes sliding on the bowling shoes. She stands up and goes to find a bowling ball that is perfect.
Nicolas stands up after putting on the shoes and goes to find a ball that fits his fingers. He looks over and spots Roselyn, a slight smirk forming on his lips. "Hey Roselyn." He says as he offers her a wave. "How are you doing?" He asks her as he moves closer to her, looking over the bowling balls.
Roselyn continues to look for a ball picking up one here and there and testing the weight of them. She looks up when someone calls her name and smiles when she sees Nicolas, "Hey. I'm good, How are you?" she says looking at him, "Are you stalking me? Cause' that would be Super.
Nicolas chuckles as he shakes his head. "No. Just here to kill some time. Thought I'd have a few drinks and play a game." He says as he looks at her. "How about you?" He asks as he tests the fitting of one of the balls.
Roselyn giggles, "Damn." she says jokingly, "Same here, and I haven't been bowling in what feels like forever so I figured I'd come and check this place out, never been here before." she says with a smile checking another ball and voila it fits perfect and the weight of it is just right. "I'll buy your drinks tonight no arguements, and no saying "No." Okay. It's all on me." she says with a grin.
Nicolas chuckles and nods. "Alright. Why don't you cancel your lane and come join mine?" He asks as he finally finds a ball that fit his fingers well. "What do you say? Will be better with someone to play against."
Roselyn nods, "Okay, sounds good." she says with a smile, "But don't get too upset when I beat you." she says with a grin, "I'll be right back." she says before she turns and walks towards the desk once again.
Nicolas nods his head and heads back to his lane, setting his ball down on the return machine. He glances back to Roselyn as he check on her, typing his name into the first column of the frames.
Roselyn cancels her lane then walks and grabs her boots. She walks to Nicolas' lane, "So you any good at bowling?" she asks as she sets her ball down in the ball holder. Then turning and looking at Nicolas.
Nicolas looks back at her and shakes his head. "Nope. Not one bit." He says as he chuckles. "Is there a name you want me to put in your frame?" He asks her as he turns back to the keys.
Roselyn giggles, "I'll take that as you are very good at bowling." she says with a grin, "You can put Rose, it's shorter and easier to remember if you like." she says taking a seat close to the ball return.
Nicolas nods his head and types in her name before he looks back to her. "I'm serious. I am not good at bowling at all." He says as he starts the game. He stands and picks up the ball, getting ready for his first frame.
Roselyn smiles, "That's what I would say too if it was me, but I'll go along with it until you kick my ass and then it is on." she says watching him, "I'm going to go and get us a pitcher and some glasses alright, I'll be right back." she says with a grin.
Nicolas nods his head. "Alright. Hurry back." He says as he makes his first approach as she heads off to get the beers. When she returns, she'll see a gutter ball on the first toss and 3 on the second.
Roselyn walks to the bar and orders a pitcher of MGD. She walks back to the lane after paying the bartender and setting it on the table pouring herself a glass. She looks at the scoreboard on the display and starts laughing, "Guess you weren't kidding." she says still laughing, "I'm sorry, it's really not funny, but..It sorta is." she says trying to calm herself down then walking to the ball return picking up her ball. She gets herself ready and goes for it, knocking only 2 pins down on the first try. She waits for her ball to return before trying again, this time she knocks another 3 down. "Damn, but it's not too bad, since I haven't played in like forever." she says with a smile.
Nicolas smirks as he looks at her, hearing her laugh. "I told you. I've played only once or twice before this." He says as he looks at her, chuckling as he watches her go. "Yeah. I just may have a chance to beat you though."
Roselyn smirks and looks at him, "I told you I haven't played in forever, but how about a bet?" she says with a sly smile, "The loser has to take the Winner out to Dinner, and the Winner gets to pick ANYWHERE! they want to go." she says with a smile.
Nicolas raises an eyebrow and chuckles. "You know that's not very fair. You've at least not played in a while and I've played a total of twice. You do have the advantage over me."
Roselyn shakes her head, "I've only played like 5 times so it isn't much of an advantage really, So what's there to lose?" she says with a smile. She says taking a drink of her MGD, "Oh I got MGD I hope you like it, I didn't know what kind you like so I went with MGD as a wild guess." she says looking to Nicolas.
Nicolas shrugs his shoulders. "MGD is fine. Beer is beer." He says as he stands up and moves to the lane, picking up his ball. He aims for a moment before he tosses the ball down the lane, knocking over six pins.
Roselyn nods, "Okay. Just didn't want to get something you hate." she says with a smile. Watching Nicolas bowl she takes another drink and looks at her boots for a second, studying the wear and tear on them before looking up again to watch Nicolas.
Nicolas sighs as he tilts his head slightly, watching the knocked over pins get scooped up as he waits for the ball to return. As the ball returns, he takes up the ball again and takes aim one more time. He tosses it down the lane and only knocks over 1 more pin. "Mother…" Is all he says before he turns and heads back to his seat. "Your turn."
Roselyn stands up, "It's okay. I'm sure you will win." she says with a smile. She walks to the ball return and picks up her ball. She gets ready and throws the ball down the lane knocking over 4 pins. She looks down at her feet waiting for the ball to return. She picks it up and tries again, this time a gutter ball, "Fuck." she says before turning and walking back to her seat. "Today just isn't my day.
Nicolas shrugs his shoulders. "Who knows." He chuckles and shakes his head. "I seriously hope you're just playing around with as bad as you're going. "Trying to make me feel better." He stands and takes his turn, knocking down 2 pins and then a gutter.
Roselyn shakes her head, "I'm not playing around, I told you it's been forever." she says looking at him with a smile, "Trust me, I wouldn't go easy on you." she says with a grin, "You could take care of yousrself." she says giggling.
Nicolas laughs and nods. "Alright. I'm trusting you." He says as he watches her as she takes her turn. "Good luck." He says with a grin.
Roselyn smiles, "Do you really trust me?" she says to him before going to the ball return and picking up her ball. She gets ready and a tosses the ball down the lane, knocking over 6 balls the first time and the last 4 the second time. "YAY!!! I got a spare." she says with a smile to Nicolas excitedly, "I didn't think that was going to happen." she says still looking at him.
Nicolas shrugs and smirks. "Maybe. We'll have to see how you do this game." He chuckles and takes a drink from the beer and watches her. "Yay! Congrats. I told you that you were just faking."
Roselyn shakes her head, "I promise I wasn't faking, it was pure luck. Honest." she says looking at Nicolas, "Good luck on your shot." she says with a smile, "I hope you do really good." she sasy before she takes a drink of her beer.
Nicolas laughs and stands up, going over to the ball return. He picks up his ball. "I'm sure." He says before he takes his turn, knocking down 3 and then 4 more. "Mother…"
Roselyn looks at Nicolas, "It's okay. I promise." she says with a smile, "Would you like me to show you how I do it?" she says to him then taking a drink of her beer, "I'll make it easier for you so you cn get better balls." she says with a grin walking towards the ball return.
Nicolas looks down at himself and then back to Roselyn. "What's wrong with my balls?" He asks her before he turns back to the lane and tosses the ball down towards the pin, knocking down 4 pins. He sighs as he waits for the cleanup and the ball to return before he tries again. He tosses the ball down again and knocks down 5 pins. "Damnit. Almost." He says as he returns to his seat.
Roselyn giggles, "Nothing is wrong with your balls they are perfect, well at least I think so, never seen them so I can't really judge them." she says still giggling, "What I meant was that I can help you get a better "score". If you want me to help you that is." she says with a smile, "Good job, you're getting better." she says looking at him.
Nicolas laughs as he looks at her. "Your going to help me score?" He says with a grin as he watches her go. "Thanks. I tried this time." He says with a chuckle.
Roselyn facepalms, "I'm just going to shut up because everything I say keeps coming out wrong." she says with a smile. She walks to the ball return and picks up her ball. She aims and tosses the ball she knock down 5 pins the first time. She waits by the ball return and glances back at Nicolas, when her ball comes back she picks it up and aims again, she knocks down 3 this time, "Damn, no luck this time." she says turning to Nicolas.
Nicolas smirks and stands as he looks to Roselyn, nodding. "Yeah, but we all have our bad moments." He says before he looks at her. "Maybe I'll have that better luck." He says as he takes his turn, knocking down 4 and then 6 pins. "Spare! Woo hooo!"
Roselyn smiles, "Yeah, that's true." she says looking at Nicolas, "Congrats!!!" she says with a grin, "About time you got a good bowl." she says jokingly, "So looks like you were hiding your talents." she says smiling at Nicolas.
Nicolas laughs and nods. "I know, right." He says as he looks at her. "Thank you, thank you." He says with a bow before he moves and sits back down on the seat.
Roselyn giggles, and pretends to throw roses at Nicolas' feet, "All hail the Almighty Nicolas." she says with a grin. She stands up and walks over to the ball return and grabs her ball. She aims and tosses the ball towards the pins. The first round and she knocks down 3 pins. She walks back to the ball return and waits for her ball to return. Once it does she grabs it and picks it up, she takes aim and tosses it at the pins: this time only knocking over 1 pin. "Damn. That freakin Sux." she says looking to Nicolas. "Told you, you would kick my ass at this game." she says with a grin.
Nicolas chuckles as he looks up at the screen. "I think that you are winning, so I am definately not kicking your ass." He says with a chuckle. He stands and takes his turn, knocking over 3 and 4 pins. He looks up at the screen again. "I am winning again."
Roselyn smiles, "Told you, you were winning." she says as she looks to him and smiles bigger, "Well hopefully I won't do so bad this time." she says with a grin. She stands up and walks to the ball return picking up her ball, "Good luck to me." she says to herself not loud enough for Nicolas to her hopefully. She tosses the ball down the lane and knocks over 5 pins. "Now for round 2." she says as she waits for her ball to return. She picks up her ball once more and takes aim for the pins. She knocks down 3 pins, "Well definitely better than the last one." she says with a grin looking at Nicolas. "Your shot." she says with a smile again.
Nicolas looks at Roselyn and then up at the score. "Wow. You're in the lead by one pin." He says with a chuckle before he goes up to the ball return, taking up his ball and takes his turn. He knocks down 5 pins on the first go and 3 on the second. "Well.." He says as he looked at her. "Looks like I just copied you." He says with a laugh.
Roselyn laughs, "Yeah, I guess so." she says looking at him. "Hopefully I can do better than that." she says still giggling. She stands up and walks to the ball return picking up her ball and aiming it down the lane. She tosses the ball amazingly it's a strike. "YAY!!!!!!! I got a strike." she says looking at Nicolas. "Can you believe it. I freakin got a strike." she says with a wide smile.
Nicolas claps for her. "Wow. Nicely done." He says, standing up and moving to take his turn. He sighs and takes his turn. "Hopefully I can keep up." He says as he tosses the ball down. He knocks over 3 pins and then gutters it the second try.
Roselyn smiles, "Thank you." she tells him before walking to the ball return, "Maybe next round you will get a good score." she says as she picks up her ball. She takes aim at the pins and tosses the ball. She knocks over 1 pin the first round. She sighs and looks down "Damn it." she says as she waits for the second ball to return. She picks it up and aims at the pins and it curves too much and it's a gutter ball. "This sux." she says looking at Nicolas. "Looks like you've won this game." she says with a smile.
Nicolas smirks and nods. "Yeah. Maybe. But you're winning at the moment." He says before he stands and takes his final turn. He tosses the ball down the lane, getting 3 pins on his first attempt and 7 on the second. "Wow. Not bad." He says with a grin and gets a third attempt. He tosses the ball down the lane again and gets 9 pins. "God damn. Nice." He says as he turns to look at her. "Your turn."
Roselyn nods, "Yeah but not by much at all." she says with a smirk. "DAMN Good Job." she says with a grin. She stands up and picks up her ball. She tosses it down the lane and knocks over 5 pins the first time. Second time around she gets the last 5. "WOOT." she says with a smile. Third time around she tosses the ball and knocks over 2 pins. "Damn, not good enough." she says looking at Nicolas. "Well looks like I"m the one buying you dinner."
Nicolas looks to Roselyn and nods. "Yup. I can imagine so." He chuckles and takes off his shoes as the game comes over. He looks to her. "Want to go get some drinks at Lucy's?" He asks as he looks at her, changing his shoes back to his regular shoes.
Roselyn smiles, "Sounds good to me, You might get to see me dance tonight." she says looking at Nicolas, "Supposed to go there and try out for a job." she says with a grin as she takes off her bowling shoes and puts he boots on, "Mind if we run by my house real quick so I can change into something better?" she asks when she's done.
Nicolas shakes his head and chuckles. "Nope. Not at all." He says as he stands up, draining the last of the beer in his glass. "We can swing by your place and get a cab to Lucy's."
Roselyn smiles, "Okay kool. Sounds like a plan." she says with a smile and finishes off her beer. "Let's get outta here." she says with a grin.
Nicolas nods and heads out of the place with her. "Where do you live?" He asks as they leave the alley.
Roselyn looks at Nicolas, "Not too far really, just down the block." she says as she points to one of the buildings. "Want to come up so you don't have to wait out in the cold?" she asks him with a smile.
Nicolas nods his head and chuckles as he looks to the building. "Wow. Same building I live in." He says with a grin. "Apartment 206." He chuckles and looks at her. "Small world."
Roselyn smiles, "Wow, that's amazing." she says to him, "Time to go to Old Lucy's." she says when she's finished.

Old Lucy's has a vibrant and lively feel to it, from the dark wooden floors to the shady crimson walls lit up by neon lights and many times, the flashing of cameras from the oft-crowded floor. The mirror behind the bar reflects prices of various drinks, bottles lined up, as well as the entire saloon as seen from the bartenders; bolted-down stools line the other side, and there are loose tables and chairs placed all around, though many times they find themselves pushed back for more space within the center of the saloon. A few speakers are placed at strategic places and around a raised stage to the far corner from the bar. Above the counter, an obviously well-used bar is hung; it is this that the girls working will use should there be dancing, which is one reason many patrons choose to come aside from the drinks. Across the bar and near the back, there is a door that leads to the owner's office and just inside a stairwell that leads a apartment on the floor above the bar.
Nicolas leads the way into Old Lucy's, holding the door open for Roselyn. He looks around as he sees the club fairly busy. "Let's get a place at the bar." He says to her as he starts to head towards the bar, looking for an empty seat.
Roselyn walks into the bar wearing a pair of knee high combat boots, a white button up shirt, a red plaid mini skirt, along with a black leather trench coat reaching down to her ankles. "Thank you." she says with a smile looking at Nicolas following along behind him so she doesn't lose him.
Nicolas finds two places at the bar, sliding onto one of the stools. He looks up at the on duty bartender. "Two Irish Car Bombs, a shot of whatever and a beer along with anything else she wants." He says, nodding to Roselyn.
Roselyn takes a seat next to Nicolas then looks to the bartender, "Just a shot of Goldschlagger and a Screwdriver please." she says before turning to Nicolas, "Thank you so much." she says with a smile. "So we found out that you can bowl better than I thought." she says with a grin.
Nicolas shakes his head as he waits for his drinks, looking to her. "I don't know about that. Just got lucky. That's all."
Roselyn smiles, "Maybe." she says to him as she looks around the bar, "So where is it you would like me to take you out to eat?" she says looking at Nicolas.
Nicolas shrugs his shoulders as he looks at her. "I'm not sure. We'll figure it out sometime." he says as he looks at her. "I'll leave it up to you as a surprise." He says with a grin as their drinks arrive.
Roselyn nods and smiles, "Okay, sounds good." she says as she looks at him. When the bartender arrives she smiles, "Thank you." she says as she takes her drinks, "Lets see who can chug their drink the fastest." she says with a sly smile to Nicolas.
Nicolas chuckles softly as he looks at her. "If I didn't know any better, I think that you're trying to get me drunk." He says to her as he picks up the shot glass and hovers it over the pint of Guinness. "You count it."
Roselyn giggles, "Now why would I go and do something like that?" she says with a sly smile, "3….2….1…GO!" she says as she drops the shot glass into the pint of Guinness and starts to chug.
As soon as she says go, Nicolas drops the shot glass into the pint and starts to chug it. He gets half way through within a matter of seconds, placing the empty glasses on the bar top as soon as he is finished, trying to catch his breath. "Wow that's good."
Roselyn finishes the last of it when he sets his glass down, "Damn, lost." she says with a smile, "Yes, it is very good." she says with a grin. "So wanna do it again?" she says with a giggle, "Just kidding." she says when she takes a drink of her Screwdriver.
