Psychic Hypnosis isn't much different from conventional hypnosis. It is, however, quicker and more effective. The method for it varies some from conventional methods, and some things are possible with Allison's method that aren't possible with regular hypnosis.
The How: In order to affect someone they must be able to hear Allison's voice. This means that it is not a power that she can use in secret, but it can be used over the phone. For some reason, however, recordings of any nature have no effect, perhaps due to the lack of concentration at the time that the recording is listened to by the subject.
In addition to being able to hear her, a chosen subject(s) must be able to understand her. So if she is speaking English and the subject doesn't understand English, then they aren't affected.
People who aren't awake are generally safe from Allison's ability altogether, as they cannot truly hear her. Although people do say that those in a coma can hear everything around them?
The What: Anything that can be done with conventional hypnosis is possible with Allison's brand of it. It is not an instantaneous process though, and she has to be able to speak to give her suggestions to a target. The method, while varying slightly given circumstances, usually consists of Allison putting her subject or subjects into a trance. They remain in whatever position they were in when she began speaking, and their eyes remain open unless she instructs otherwise. From here, she can do any of the following things:
- Memories: Allison can help bring repressed memories to the surface. This is generally one of the harder things for her to do as memories were repressed for a reason. She can also help to suppress certain memories, though this has a 50/50 shot of working, unless the target wants this memory suppressed, such as that of a trauma that they'd like to forget ever happened.
- Post-Hypnotic Suggestions: Allison can implant suggestions that will only be carried out at a later time when either she gives a trigger or certain conditions are met. These can be anything as simple as "go home and sleep" or more elaborate schemes.
- Therapy: Yes, she can help people too! Want to quit smoking? Get rid of a phobia? Sleep better? Be more rested? She can do this! It can also help with pain management.
The Side-effects: When Allison uses her ability, her eyes turn a startling shade of silver ringed with black. This isn't something that she can prevent, though she can partially disguise it by wearing contacts. More, it is not a silent ability, so it isn't hard for those who pay attention to realize what she's doing.
Simple things or people with few mental blocks cause no trouble for Allison. Harder things for her though, such as hypnotizing several people at once or trying to force someone to do something completely out of character severely drains her. Exhaustion, headaches and even a loss of her voice are the most common side-effects.
The Limitations: People who are sleeping or in a drugged state of unconsciousness cannot be affected, nor can deaf people or those who do not speak the language that she is using. More, some drugs, such as acid, tend to alter her suggestions for conscious people, but does not entirely negate them. Other drugs, such as marijuana, make it easier for her to affect people.
The things that she can make people do are limited to their capabilities. A nurse, for example, cannot build a rocket from scratch, and a clumsy person cannot do things that only an Olympic gymnast could do.
Things that are outside of a person's natural inclination (I.E., murder, suicide, etc) are harder for Allison to force on a person, but not always impossible.
Also, while one person is easiest, Allison is only able to affect up to a maximum of 3 people at a time. But doing so takes a great deal of effort on her part.
