Fatherless Childhood
Cassidy was born and raised in New Orleans. Her father was a NOPD police officer, who was killed on a routine traffic stop when she was about six years old. Her mother never remarried, but had plenty of gentlemen callers. Cassidy spent a lot of her days with her grandmother, who watched her while her mother worked. It's not that her mother didn't love her, it's just that she had to work several jobs to make ends meet. It took Cassidy a while to understand, but she eventually appreciated what her mother did when she got older. When Cassidy was about eight, she was playing with her golden retriever, Maddie, when the dog knocked her hitting her head sharply on the curb. The injury landed her in the hospital for several days as she almost almost died from it.
When she reached her teenage years she joined the police explorers program. This program allowed kids to learn the ins and outs of the police station and do simple things such as direct traffic at events. Many of the guys at district she did this at, remembered her father and/or were his friends. They kind of took her under their wing and she found herself surrounded by stories of her father. Lucky Larry he was called cause he always seemed to dodge danger. They said he seemed to just sense something wasn't right about people. Being an explorer, seemed to have given her a whole department of surrogate dads. Because of this she stayed with the program all through her school years. But it also caused some problems in her social life, since what boy would want to go out with a girl that had a group of old guys watching her back. Even though now she can look back and laugh, at the time it had it's frustrating moments.
This isn't to say she didn't get away with anything, to the contrary she did. She was 17 at the time and had finally found a boyfriend in Rick. One evening she and this guy found sometime to themselves and well.. one thing led to another. Hooo boy, when the guys at the district found out from her mother, Cassidy was sat down and they proceeded to lecture her on how they knew how boys were and the dangers and such. It was really funny to see 6 men surrounding a young girl who just sighed and rolled her eyes, telling her how boys only want one thing.. so on and so forth.
NOPD
She graduated high school and proceeded to college, slipping into the summer semester, where she worked on her criminal justice degree. She had long ago decided to go into the family business. She was after all descended from a long line of law enforcement. In fact, not long after she hit the age of 21 and graduated with a bachelor, she was hired onto the NOPD and sent through the police academy. The guys surprised her with making recommendations and sending letters on her behalf, which helped get her in the door. So as not to let those old guys down, she threw her all into the academy. While she didn't pass head of her class, she did excel and made those guys proud when she graduated.
Straight out the door, she had a good partner in the way of Buck. He was married to his high school sweetheart and had to great kids. His wife at first wasn't too happy with her husband ending up with a female partner. It took time, but eventually a friendship grew there. They were friends as much as partners, which tends to happen when your around someone long enough. A couples years in, things started to get a bit weird for her, though she just chalked it up to being around him awhile. Ever just seem to know what your loved one or friend is thinking? To occasionally sense his shift in mood. That seemed to start to happen a lot. They'd just laugh it off when ever it happened, but it was still kind of an odd feeling. This gut feeling seemed to come at odd times, and not always with Buck. Now and then she'd get that gut instinct when they were dealing with someone. Often that could sve their lives. It got the old guys talking about how it seems she was chip off the old block.
It didn't happen all that often and one time it proved fatal. During the chaos of Katrina, they were arresting a gang member for looting when they were jumped by several other members. Her gut feelings didn't go off then, so they were caught unaware. Forced to his knees her partner was executed with a bullet to the brain, but Cassidy was beaten when in an inch of her life. She survived the beating she received, due to the kindness of others who found her and took the extra effort even with all the tragedy around them to get her help.
She took the death of her partner pretty badly as they had been pretty close those few years. She stayed in touch with his widow and tried to continue the friend ship there, but Buck was always hanging between them, and eventually they parted ways and only checked on each other now and then. Cassidy decided, while recovering, to take the detectives exam, wanting to get off the regular patrol and into something more like she knew her dad would have wanted to do. She passed the exams with flying colors and received her detectives badge in no time.
After the Bomb
She never had a steady partner during the time leading up to the explosion in New York. The guys that hadn't retired yet all kind of passed her between them. It was frustrating for her, since they all seemed to still see her as that little girl they watched grow up. On more then one occasion she had to tell them that. It was like they were still trying to protect her.
A few months out from the bomb, Cassidy's gut feelings started getting worse, especially around the old guys. Something just seemed wrong and out of place. The old guys that she once trusted with her life, she just felt creepy about, as if there is some kind of evil they were hiding from her. It made her uneasy and distrustful. Then New York exploded and none of that seemed important important for a time as she watched the world change drastically. She had little time to dwell on it at first, with the explosion New Orleans was in a panic. They had already gone through a bad tragedy the year before, now this. She was pretty wrap up in the affairs of New Orleans until more things changed in the world. The emergence of the Evolved and the signing of the Linderman Act, a shock that brought with it a whole new set of problems. People had a new target and something new to fear. Cassidy herself didn't know what to think, especially when she found out Buck's ex-wife was an Evolve. It's easy to hate what you don't understand, but when you find out you knew one and that they were just like everyone else… It kept her grounded, even when many of the old guys seemed to turn prejudice. It was hard to be around them at times anymore. Little did she know that her repulsion to them, would be what in the end saved her.
Her partner at the time was one of her surrogate fathers, Richard. He had found out that his neighbor was “one of those god damned freaks.” The sad thing about it was that for years before that they had been friends. In fact, their girls had grown up and gone to school together. Now this person was a freak, and the hate Richard had was so bad, that it made Cassidy sick. It was no surprised when the neighbor turned up dead. Cassidy was pretty sure of who had done it, but she had no proof. Evidence mysteriously disappeared, and new evidence she didn't know about before started showing up. It all stank of a cover up and it hurt her to see these men become nothing more then corrupt cops.
NYPD
Cassidy asked for a transfer as soon as she could to New York, wanting and desperately needing to get away from the corruption she knew was in that department. Not to mention knowing the hard truth that these men that had watched her grow up, were criminals. She just couldn't take it, especially the covering of evidence.
Her transfer was approved recently and she's settling into New York. Recently, she's been going through the final procedures of joining the force, one being a simple blood test to see if she is Evolved or not. She was pretty convinced that she wasn't, after all, she didn't shoot lasers out of her eyes or anything. So imagine her surprise when the guy giving the test looked up at her and said. “So Miss O'Shea. “What to tell us what your evolved power is?” “My what?!?” They almost let her go right there, they swore she was holding back on them. She reassured them again and again that she didn't know of anything. Finally, they relented after a doctor told them that she may not have developed her ability, or it is such a minor thing that she wouldn't be aware of it. Crisis averted. So now she's waiting to be assigned a new partner, almost dreading it. She had already lost one. And coming to grips with the fact she's now a marked woman and has nothing to show for it, how frustrating is that?
General : Many people would call it empathy, Cassidy calls it her gut feeling. In most cases, it's not strong. She can't just pluck those emotions out of the air. She can't look at everyone and detect their emotions. She just gets her gut feelings. “I don't know.. but I think that guy is up to something, something just seems wrong about him.” The more time she spends with a person the more she can read them. Friends and loved ones, she can read their emotions easily. She can walk into a family gathering and know who is pissed, who is happy. But not everyone, she'd be more clueless about a distant cousin then say her own mother. So on and so forth. She has no control over this, sometimes she won't catch anything. Her ability is like a net, somethings slip through, others are loud and demand attention. (OOC Note: If yo want me to catch something to feel it, let me know in the corse of RP)
Closer Look : There is a special part of her power, and it is kind of odd. And this is something she won't learn until she's assigned her partner in New York and they have spent time together. It happens only with one person.. possibly a second to a lesser degree later on down the road. Mainly, it is to happen with her partner. The more time she spends with the person, the more focused she is on this one person and a type of rapport develops. It takes time, but a link of sorts develops until, at the embarrassment of both, that bond forms and they know other is thinking, they can feel what the other is feeling. It could easily have it's upsides and downsides. For one it's not controlled. It is hit or miss what might pass between them. It can't really be forced. It's mostly subconscious. Some examples would be, she'd suddenly feel the need to eat, when her partner is hungry and vice versa. Or they both seem to know in a gunfight, without having to shout what they are going to do. But also imagine the mental strain when that partner dies, she would feel that moment of that death. The only time they can really use it is that if they really think about it they can get a sense of where the other person is and point in their direction. It's not unusual for them to happen 'run into each other' at the store or something.
The bond is a strong one up close, but it does have it's limits. The more distance you put between them, the fuzzier things get and quickly. A few miles between them and they are reduced to mostly emotions and feelings with few impressions. Though it's not unheard of for one to 'think' they 'heard' something. As you go out from there, the strength of the emotions fade, no thoughts, just a sense of them being there and having a sense of where they are and being able to follow that. If the distance is too great, it fades to a something at the back of their minds. It never really breaks when they are apart, it is always active, they will always know that the other is still alive. Much like a mom seems to know that her her child is okay from across a country. It's just a knowing. They don't know if they are in trouble, they don't know if they are hurt. They just know they haven't died yet. “I don't know how.. I just know he/she is still alive.” Once that bond is formed, it takes years to fade, but only as long as they stay separated.
Victims: She can only have two strong links and only one link will be a full link.
- Full Link - They are completely and totally linked, mentally and emotionally. Will take years apart to break /if/ they stay seperated that long. - Partial Link - This link is only an emotional one and not very strong. It will take just a few months to break.

Skills
Police Procedures, Investigation and Training
She has been to Police Academy and has several years on the force under her belt. From traffic investigation to defensive driving; various forms of defense to how to effectively cuff a person, she has taken the courses. Training is ongoing as there is always this or that that needs to be updated or refreshed.
Criminal Justice
Straight out of high school, she started her college education, majoring in criminal justice. She graduated with a 3.5 GPA with a bachelors degree.
Crime Scene Investigation
One of the classes she excelled in and took extras of while in pursuit for her degrees was Crime Scene Investigation. It's an awareness of what your looking at and the ability to read what you see. She's pretty good at picking out things that others might not see right away. It's not a power.. it's just her paying more attention.
First Aid
Part of the training she gets being on the force is basic first aid, it has to be renewed yearly. She can't do surgery, but she can splint a bone, protect a burn… so on and so forth.
Self Defense
Being a woman, especially a smaller more delicate looking one at that, in this job she's had to make sure she could protect herself as needed. Don't let her Disney princess-like looks fool you, she is not a push over. She may not be able to stop everyone, but she will not go down with a heck of a fight.
Observation
She very aware of what is happening in her surroundings. Maybe it's partially due to her ability or maybe it's her police training, but she seems to pay more attention to what is around her. It's almost subconscious, like she can't help but continuously watch the world around her.
Relationships
Dr. Coren James Shelby - She really couldn't have found a better partner, despite how shakey things started out. They really do care for each other and he's always there when she needs the support. She honestly feels like she can put her life in his hands and has complete trust in him. There is so much more there too, things have happened that have made the pair realize their feelings for each other. She finds comfort when with him. He feels… safe. It's an emotionally scary situation for the young woman, because her head and her heart have always been in the job. It was after a huge argument that caused something happened with Cassidy's power connecting the two so deeply and completely, and altering their lives. If for better or worse has yet to be seen. Though a vision by Joseph has told them that this might be much more then some power glitch. Even more recently, the events revolving around the serial killer Azrael have finally brought them together. When Cassidy was captured by the twisted psycho, Coren put everything on the line to get her back and as he held her broken body he gave her his heart as well. What does the future hold for them? Only time will tell. Songs : 'You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)' by Josh Groban | 'Bring Me To Life' by Evanesence | 'My Immortal' by Evanesence |
Detective Elisabeth Harrison - Someone that Cassidy has learned to trust as a great detective with a good solid head on her shoulders. Cassie would trust Liz to watch her back when the situation goes south, but then they both took down an Evolved together. They are becoming fast friends as when not around Coren, Cassidy prefers to hang out with the blond detective. Often times Liz seems to be her other partner, as both have been working a lot of cases together. Cassidy learned that Liz was the newest victim of her ability as she had to endure the sheer terror that her friend had to endure while being tortured by Humanis First. |
|
Mortimer Jack (Ex- Boyfriend) - The man showed up at her apartment, changed her locks, used her shower and boldly told her of his affections. He made her a few offers which she boldly refused, crushing him. He challenged Dutch to a battle to impress her and ended up having his arm blown off and his brains rattled, leaving him a different person. She can't help but feel sorry for and like this other side of him and has forgiven him for breaking into her place. Even though he seemed to slip into this other crazy part of him, Cassidy hasn't turned away yet. After the explosion at Primatech, he showed up at her place and said he was through with that life and he was leaving to try and change for the better. Of course, days later she discovered they were connected. Something they were never able to explore… that link has since faded. And now she's had to break his heart.. Of course, the breaking goes both ways. She really did have feelings for him, but she can't give him what he wants or needs. They have settled into the roll of friends after a meeting in New Orleans where Cassidy was finally able to explain everything. |
Agent Felix Ivanov - Close to Liz, Felix seems like an alright guy. She's had dealings with him on a few occations, and he's been reliable. The fact that Liz trusts him so much, means that Cassidy feels comfortable with the man at her back if it came down to it.
Rebecca Nakano - The geeky little foresics girl with an interesting ability. She's helped out Cassidy and so the detective is gonna help her by being a friend and getting her out of the lab.
Detective Leland Daubrey - Grumpy man. Close to Felix. Not much to say really.
Officer Aude Castalides - Doesn't know her too well. SHe's seen her around the precinct.
Agent Alois "Dutch" Ohnesorge - Nice guy, even with the ego. He sent a guy to the NYPD for questioning and Cassidy got snagged for it. She's had a message (body) for him dumped at her feet. Seem's she's getting pulled further into his mess. She trusts him and even likes him. She finds his facination with guns amusing. |
Richard Cardinal (AKA The Library Cutie or Han Solo) - She met him through Liz, and it was obvious to her that her friend had feelings for the man. He's one of those guys that are on the wrong side of the law, but at first meeting he seems alright. After aving dinner at Liz's place, Cassidy has a better feel for the guy. He seems to be in the know, much like Liz, of what's going on in the city. She's offered her help to the man where she can. |
|
Pastor Joseph Sumter - She was brought in by Abby to find out about the defacement of the church. Curious why the man didn't want to call in the cop and wanting to bring in Rebecca to see what happened, she went to see him. In return she recieved a disturbing vision about her and Coren.
Mrs. Estrid Hadley - Nice old lady who runs a bakery. Cassidy goes there for Eclairs! Yum!
Abigail Beauchamp - Cassidy owes this woman big after having disfiguring scars healed from her torso. Not just that she help Cassie avoid pissing off Coren. So she's okay in Cassidy's book. |
