Background

Katherine Montoya Marks was born to Staff Sergeant Kenneth Marks and his wife Monica while the husband was serving the country during the last major war. Upon his return, the trio traveled from base to base every few years as directed by the Department of the Army. Her father gave her the nickname .Kat. the very first day she was born, and the title stuck through her entire life. In fact, anyone ever called her Katherine; she would make a face and nearly demand they call her Kat.

Kat went through all the typical scenarios as a child, with the exception of the constant travel. She was in high school when her father finally retired from the military and they were finally able to settle in the city. She was a typical teen, with crushes, boyfriends, breakups, bad grades, good grades, and plenty of angst. She was someone to speak of, but never really the focal point of her high school. She wasn't the prom queen, or the head cheerleader. Her grades were average, so valedictorian was not an option for her. However, she had a charm about her that attracted the attention of most around her. She graduated school with a 2.7, which doesn't earn her any scholarships.

Kat attended college, which her father's GI Bill paid for, and still her grades were subpar. In the middle of her second year, she received a phone call. Her folks were both killed in a hit and run accident. She was to return to claim the home, as she was responsible see to the burial of her folks. This, of course, left her without any family. Both pairs of grandparents had passed on naturally, and now her parents. She had no siblings. She was 20 years old.

One day, before the funeral she was sitting on her bed, crying. As she was holding the picture of her parents in her hand, it suddenly began to change shape. The shape it became was not important as the fact that the wood molding, the glass cover, the photograph inside and the cardboard at the back all twisted and bubbled out and elongated before her very eyes. She dropped the picture and it shattered on the hard floor. The incident freaked her out and she withdrew for several days, not answering phone calls, or the door, or anything. In fact, she found her parents liquor cabinet and began to douse her confusion liberally.

As she drank, she held the bottle of whiskey. She suddenly imagines the bottle is a large drinking glass and the container shifts without disturbing its liquid contents and becomes the shape of a glass. It's enough to startle her out of her intoxicated state as she spends the remainder of the weekend experimenting. She can change the shape of wood, rock, glass, plastic, cloth. She can change anything that is inanimate and not a living organism. Don't ask how she found this out. It was not a pretty experience.

She cleaned herself up, buried her parents and sold the house. As she was getting ready to walk away from her home for the last time, a hummer drove up and after a few moments of explanation, she nods her head. Having no real alternative and nothing really left to live for, she accepted a position with the Company. She has no idea how they found about her, or about what she can do, but at least this will give her some purpose, plus the offer of freedom.

She learned to shoot, she learned to fight, and she learned to take orders. Little by little, her self-confidence began to return to her. She especially learned how to deal with her newfound ability. When she finished training, the Company sent her out on missions, where her confidence level is at an all time high, having completed the majority of her assignments successfully.

Upon becoming part of the Company, Kat registered as an Evolved. She never was much for politics, so her opinion of the registered really is null. It was easier for her to do so, then to not do so, so she did.

Katherine was a decorated agent for the Company for many years. It became more than a job for her as she began to take their beliefs to heart. She believed that deep down she was doing the right thing. However, one night in a scuffle with Adam Monroe during a routine recruitment, Katherine took a bullet to the chest. Four days later, at her request, life support was pulled and she was pronounced dead.

However, it appears she did not die as she showed up four months later on Staten Island calling herself June.

Evolved Ability

Size Manipulation: Kat uses compression to shrink objects. Manipulating the object enough that she can actually even the smallest amount of air from it and make it smaller. To make it bigger, she would add air to expand the material. Now, depending on how dense the material is really depends on how large or how small she can make them. There is a limit to what she can do in this field.

Size Limitations: The smaller the object the more intricate she can manipulate that object. She can take a small rock and form a detailed Statue of Liberty. However, the larger the object, the less she can make the transformation detailed.

Depth limitation: Objects with a depth of 6 feet or more will not be able to be transformed. That being said, if she just wants to make a hole in a wall, she can do that, but she could not transform the entire wall.

Matter limitation: Her transformation only manipulate the existing matter. She cannot, for example, turn something rock into something metal, or something plastic into something wooden. Rock stays rock, wood stays wood. She only manipulates its shape and size.

Energy limitation: This gift will wear on her if the size is too great. Smaller transformations are easiest. But larger ones take quite a bit out of her, so she may have to rest before she can transform again.
