Not An Inspirational Tale
There are stories of heroism. Of people overcoming great odds, triumphing over evil, and standing up for all that is right and true in the face of adversity.
This…is not one of them.
Lori Levonian's family is rich. Staggeringly, stupidly rich. Her father, Peter Levonian, was the son-in-law of the president of Interpipe, one of the world's largest producers of steel pipes. Upon graduation from college, his father turned over the firm to Peter. Peter's shrewd business acumen sent the company's net worth spiraling up and up, and eventually he diversified, purchasing Armenia's largest steel company, Kryvorizhstal, with fellow billionaire Rinat Akhmetov until it was reprivatized in 2005. His net worth is estimated by Forbes at 6.4 billion dollars.
Lori is Peter's only daughter, and very much the apple of his eye. Doted upon and given virtually ANYTHING her heart desired growing up, she is the embodiment of the spoiled, super-wealthy heiress. During her childhood, the merest HINT that she wanted something, and it was hers. Expensive toys, the finest designer clothes, a Ferrari for her sixteenth birthday. And why, yes, she did have a pony, thank you for asking.
Despite having everything that money could buy, Lori wanted more. Armenia, for as nice as it was (well, nice if you're the daughter of a billionaire) was still somewhat of a backwater. It was America that fascinated Lori. America, their culture of consumption, their obsession with fame, and worship of celebrity. She decided then and there that she wanted to go to America.
It was the first (and quite possibly only) time that her father told her no. She was too young to live alone, and it was too far away. He countered with an offer that if she wanted to, when she was older he would see to it that she went to college there. After the shrieking and tantrums stopped, Lori decided that if this was the only way to do it, so be it. She took up studying English (probably the only studying she's ever actually bothered to put effort into; you don't need good grades when you're as rich as her family is).
Going To America!
When she graduated high school, she proved to her father that she had a good memory. It was America she wanted. And she was an adult now! She could do just fine on her own. She was going to move there, go to school there, live there! Caught in a trap of his own making (Peter never expected it would stick with her; Lori was known for her mercurial interests), he agreed, and off she went! There were only two possibilities for her. Los Angeles, or New York, the two iconic American cities. In the end, she decided on New York…there were still plenty of celebrities and celebrity culture there, and she could become famous!
College was a sideline at best. She took the easiest, simplest classes she could find, and got by through paying people to do her homework for her. She didn't do particularly well (to put it mildly), but she at least had some progress she could send to her father. But her real interest, at which she excelled, was getting into the local party scene, and being one of the "best friends" of the local celebrities.
That was ten years ago. During that time, she's succeeded, at least somewhat. She's become famous, even if it's one of those "famous for being famous" sort of things (the naked pictures of her that hit the internet didn't hurt), and she's one of the favorites of the local paparazzi, someone they can toss up on the tabloids and take a number of photos of. She's been courted by a couple different agents looking into possible Reality TV outlets that she might be able to be involved in, the better to increase her exposure. Her ultimate goal, of course, is to become a famous actress…which might be hindered by a general lack of talent and a surplus of vapidity. Of course, Paris Hilton has both, and she managed it.
