Background

Without the world being made aware of Evolved, Asami is never exposed to the government of Japan, and is able to freely live her desired double life as a hacker and technopath, while outwardly presenting as a respectable engineer and innovator. Thanks to advance notice from a certain benefactor and fellow Special, she and her family are able to ride out the initial flood and meteorological catastrophes. Seeing an opportunity to make a difference in their changing world, Kaori reveals her ability to her family, and Asami immediately joins her in her declaration. Their family remains whole — Kaori assisting with keeping her family and neighbors fed, while Asami does her best to help keep those around her technologically afloat. That tight bond is shattered when the Vanguard ride, her hometown and her family tree burning like so many others'.

Hollow from loss, she eventually gravitates toward the shore, and begins to find herself again in the sea. Eager to put the past behind her and find a new life, she and a small crew set sail for a new land, and eventually find it in the Manhattan Archipelago. Discovering Marlowe's community helps her find a sense of belonging she's not had since Kyoto still stood, and rekindles her desire to help others. It drives her, almost insatiably, to seek purpose again.

Asi finds work where able, scavenging and sometimes building. She finds her feet on several boats that make berth from the Pelago, more often than not that boat being the Forthright. She can sometimes feel strains of the purpose she craves when working with that mad crew, and though she has swore off sailing with them more than once … she always comes back.

Psych Profile

Asi is often quiet and contemplative, still struggling to find purpose or a place. She fears truly putting down roots in the Pelago, afraid everything could go wrong again. Despite this, she still is able to find moments of small happiness in her travels— moments that are genuine and cherished.

Vicious when crossed or when defending others, Asi can still become the 'oni' she was before the world fell. She takes more pleasure than she'd like to admit in lashing out against those who deserve it … and sometimes just against those who've pushed the wrong buttons.

Evolved Ability

Flood Asi is just as skilled with her ability as her Prime self, just out of practice. As a result, directing her subprocesses takes intense focus, and complex commands will take longer to execute. The world these days has few outlets for her to continue to hone her ability, and even fewer opportunities to challenge her to be at her best.
