Synopsis | Eve and Jezebel discuss fixing various places |
Date | November 10, 2008 |
Everything about Piccoli's is welcoming. There's a large, cheerful neon sign mounted on the roof, the interior is brightly lit and spotlessly clean, and the old-fashioned decor is more reminiscent of mother's kitchen than a successful business. Since the doors opened in 1946, Piccoli's has been best known for pastrami, hot dogs, corned beef, and salami. The wait can sometimes be a little long, but the prices are reasonable and the food is always worth it.
After her encounter with Amato at the pharmacy, Eve almost forgot that she said she would meet her maybe half-sister at the restaurant, so Eve is rushing into the place saying, "I'm so sorry! I went to the pharmacy for some aspirin. Headache was killing me!"
Jezebel is waiting by the door. Her helmet is elsewhere and her black leather gloves are jammed into her pockets. Yes, it's black leather biker gear again, with a green top under the jacket. She replies, "It's okay, it's okay. You showed up in time to keep me from buying a dozen danish. Are you feeling better?"
Eve nods and then shakes her head and sighs, "No I'm not" the woman then proceeds to find a seat and sit down before explaining. "Until a few months ago, I knew actually what my place in life was. Helping people, with" Eve looks to the side, "My friends, but now everything has changed and I've changed and my friends have changed and I just don't know anymore. Am I making sense?"
Jezebel follows suit, which means they just took over a table for two. A fairly simple long-sleeved green top was under the jacket; the jacket is now on the back of her chair. "It makes a fair amount of sense to me," she answers. "I'm here partly to find the truth, partly because something had to give and partly because I seem to be needed."
"Needed? What do you do again? I never even asked you." Eve runs a hand through her hair and then closes her eyes for a brief moment as she thinks about everything that has been going on lately. When she opens her eyes again they are focused on her sister.
Jezebel chuckles. "Right now, I'm on walkabout, one might say. I should, from a certain point of view, be back in Georgetown getting good grades. Instead, I am up here. I'm taking care of a house for someone. What do you do?"
"Dad would have loved you. I didn't go to college he really wanted me to go" Eve smiles faintly and adds, "I'm an artist specifically a singer at the Orchid Lounge. I also try to help the people I see in my visions" Eve says and rubs her temple, "How'd you get into the job for someone's house?"
Jezebel teases, "Maybe I should make you pick up the tab. If I hadn't gone, there would have been Hell to pay. You should have heard, well, I'll continue to call him Dad, argue for me going to MIT in CompSci. As for the house, it was a friend of a friend of a friend, but very highly recommended all the way down the chain. I just wish they'd mentioned that I get to fix the place up, too."
Eve chuckles lightly, "I can and will pick up the tab. College is one of the only things Dad and I fought about. He loved my singing though, so I guess he got over it" Eve's gaze studies Jezebel as she says, "Fix up? Maybe I can help?" Is the sister reaching out for some bonding time? "I don't know that much about house construction but I could help a little"
Jezebel says, “I have to ask, but I'd love help. My new mantra is the Home Depot motto. Is there a Home Depot nearer than Jersey? Do you own a pick-up truck?”
"I have an old muscle car" Eve offers with a sheepish smile and then she laughs. "I know where the Home Depot is, but no pickup truck-sis" the word 'sis' doesn't sound awkward or weird. It kind of fits.
Jezebel grins. "Let me ask the owner of the house. If I get the green light, you're on. I still need to find a sucker with a pickup truck."
Eve nods and replies, "Sounds good to me" then she cleans her throat. "I'm thinking we can start trying to track down dad's old friends and see if they have heard from him" Subject changes to looking for someone that is most likely dead.
Jezebel agrees, "It's worth a shot." She finally waves down a waiter and orders a Reuben and that rare substance, a Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda. "I haven't even been able to chase down his repair shop."
Eve perks up, "I can take you there sometime this week. I spent so much time there" even though Eve hasn't been the repair shop since the bomb. Maybe she is scared of what she will find. "I think it is abandoned"
Jezebel sighs. "Probably. I couldn't find it on the Web and I really tried. I'm not nearly good enough to open it up again if it is."
"He taught me everything he knows about cars, maybe we can take a few clients at a time and then open it fully once we find some more people to work with us. It's worth a shot right?" Eve gets a pondering look on her face, "I'm sure he left the shop to me as well and so we wouldn't have any legal problems just have to fix it up and then see what happens" This goal or purpose that Eve is being given right at this moment is giving Eve new energy and slowly pulling her out of her dark place. "It's been a long time, since I've really done anything for myself other than help other people"
Jezebel warns her maybe half-sister, "That'll burn you up and out in no time. Helping other people is hard work. I see I shall have to teach you gardening, or something."
Eve laughs, "Oh I know what helping other people does to you, trust me" a smile is given to Jezebel. "I would be up for learning how to garden but I wouldn't be a match for your excellent 'gardening' skills. You have to come and see me sing one evening"
Jezebel promises, "I'll do it. How nicely do I need to dress and what's the cover?"
"It's a pretty fancy place, so a dress maybe?" at the mention of cover charge Eve waves her hand, "You won't need to pay to get in. Just say that I am expecting you. The charge is crazy"
Jezebel muses, "Dress, dress…. hard to do if I ride over. Any chance I can get in and change in the bathroom?" The food arrives. Jezebel says, "If you want some fries, steal them now," then attacks the Reuben.
"Shouldn't be a problem" and when the food arrives Eve steals a few fries and eats them, "This should be fun"
And much food was consumed…
