From April 1 to April 14 (IC start date March 25th), Yamagato Park will be hosting the first-ever Cherry Blossom Festa intended to replace the Washington D.C.-based National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Background
When Yamagato Park was founded in 2015, a planting ceremony for cherry blossoms took place at Bensonhurst Park. Since then, the carefully-manicured trees have matured and are ready for their first debut. Charitable organizers are delighted at the opportunity to rally around the blooms in New York, and have worked with the Yamagato Fellowship to reinstate celebrations and culture sharing opportunities that were lost with the destruction of Washington D.C and the overgrowth of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in Park Slope.
Out of town tourists and Safe Zone residents alike are welcomed to the Yamagato Park festivities that will take place over the first two weeks of April. Many events that would normally take place at the National Cherry Blossom Festival will be reproduced in Yamagato Park and surrounding areas in the New York City Safe Zone.
Events planned include a special art showing at the Fellowship Center, a 2.5k/5k run, historical and contemporary movie screenings, musical demonstrations, and other miscellaneous cultural exchange events.
On-Screen Opportunities
Currently planning on 3 doc events:
- Pink Tie Party event
- Kite Day event
- After-hours Hanami Illumination event.
The intention here is that interested parties could have scenes at other activities/events planned throughout the 2-week period.
Want to buddy up with someone for the 5k? Hell yeah, go for it! Want to do a chill hanami viewing as a live thing? Yay live scenes~~
