In December, Sylar traveled forward to 2018, in a timeline where the world had been devastated by a plague which eradicated 90% of the entire human population, Evolved and non-Evolved alike. With the defeat of Kazimir Volken and the dissolution of Vanguard, that future is no longer a possibility — but a future always exists, so what lies ahead now?
In April 2019, America is a markedly different place. The suspicion, fear, and guerrilla acts of 2006-2011 are relegated to bad memories and lengthy chapters in history books. The ruins of Midtown have been converted into a vast and verdant national park. The Linderman Act has been supplanted. Evolved and non-Evolved live… perhaps not in peace and perfect harmony, because no populace does, but openly side-by-side.
Volume VI of String Theory's story, A Sound of Thunder, concerns this idyllic future and how it came to be — and everyone on the game is invited to participate. The guidelines for participation are as follows:
- Eight (8) people, not including the time-traveler who takes them there, will be going forward from the present to this bright future. The catch: the jumping-off point is Moab Federal Penitentiary. Anyone who wants to be numbered amongst those eight needs to be in Moab before the end of this month.
- Those whose characters are not going forward are invited to create a bright future alternate for one (1) of their characters. There is a section of the forum set aside purely for planning out what the future-chars are doing and whom they've connected with. Submit a +request outlining the intervening 10 years of history, along with any ability or skill upgrades and a link to your preferred future-icon pic, no later than 11:00pm EST on Saturday, March 28th.
- A second future character may be allowed if and only if you can present a good story to go with them.
- There will also be four (4) PCs who go in the other direction. These adoptable characters were imprisoned in Moab in the bright future, and travel back in time in the attempt to prevent it from coming to pass. For the duration of A Sound of Thunder, these characters do not count against the alt limit; however, they are pivotal to the plot and you will have to commit to a decent level of activity with them if you get one. Applications must be submitted by March 22, 2009.
- For those remaining in the present: much, even most, of the plotting will actually happen here, never fear!
- The window into the future will open April 1st and close April 30th. After that date, you may still backdate scenes as necessary to tie off loose ends, but no RP in the bright future will occur after April 30th. Plan accordingly. Additionally, several key future-place descs are posted on the wiki, but we will not be creating a separate grid for this month's endeavors. Instead, there is a new status command, +tp, for toggling whether you are in a future scene or not. Please pay attention to your status, and make use of the many out-of-the-way spaces we have on-grid if room-use conflicts arise.
