At present, it looks like Ygraine'll probably have gone back into translation work, and eventually returned to the UN to work in one of its analytical departments.
She'll be approaching the ten-year anniversary of her civil partnership with Jennifer, and the pair are likely to have adopted one or more kids. Should gene-tech have advanced to the level where it's possible, Ygraine'd be interested in having a child of their own - but I'm not sure if that sort of development'll be feasible even with the aid of Evolved scientists…
In 2009, she'll have moved (with Jen) to the UK, where things seem set to remain rather more civilised, and mandatory registration and testing aren't live issues.
She'll have accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom (it's not restricted to US citizens), though she's not inclined to use it to establish a career, and will in whatever public statements she makes always have been more focused upon what went wrong to generate the situation than in lauding those who took part. If pressed in media interviews, she'll say that as far as she's concerned it should never have got to the stage it did, and the fate of the world should never have depended upon the bravery and readiness to sacrifice themselves of a rag-tag band of amateurs. To her, the focus should be upon trying to ensure that the authorities learn from every stage of this.
She'll never have Registered, but will have worked discretely with her home Olympic authorities to try to find ways to create and promote Evolved sporting events, and on respectful ways of screening competitors for powers that might aid their performance. Though she's opposed to mandatory registration and universal testing, she's a lot more accepting of it in professional sport - having been part of an event frequently blighted by doping, she's an advocate of a level playing field when money, medals and reputation are on the line.
I'm not sure when she'll have returned to live in the US: Jen'll most likely have finished her degree in the UK, before going into acting. But by the time of the bright future, the pair seem set to be back in NYC - Ygraine at the UN and Jennifer as a Broadway actress. As a gay foreigner who is the official partner of a Broadway actress and holds the Medal of Freedom, she might attract some media attention… but she's unlikely to seek it deliberately.
Should anyone have any thoughts, queries, or suggestions, do let me know… Pretty much all of this is open to revision. And proposals for character ties are definitely welcome. :)
