I'm really not sure of many details as yet, so I'm fishing for connections….
Events and Locations:
- Civil War: She'll definitely participate, and is likely to continue her shift towards superpowered ninja (scale any obstacle; hide in impossible-to-reach corners; ludicrously dangerous at close range), though as a foreigner there'll always be a slightly odd 'spin' on her attitudes and involvement. She'll continue to push the idea of her being highly effective in getting groups of people into useful places - whether to surveil or snipe from otherwise-unreachable vantage points, or to breach security for an assault - and out of dangerous ones, providing options for rescue. Conventional modern battlefields with long-range weapons reduce the usefulness of her means of cheating, so she might well have a particular focus on things like releasing detainees.
- Diplomacy: Thanks to her linguist father's idiosyncratic approach to child-raising, Ygraine's fully bilingual in French; she was in New York at the time of the Bomb because she was translating for the UN. She also has UK citizenship, and no criminal problems in the UK (unless the US ever formally declares her to be a terrorist and requests action against her, in which case there's a specific UK-US treaty signed post-9/11 that could cause her problems). So she's likely to be able to travel outside the US a great deal more freely, and talk in their native tongue with a wider range of people, than most other characters. Whatever faction(s) she winds up working with, she could be employed to conduct overt or covert diplomatic and recruitment efforts in Quebec or any other Francophone territory or country, as well as throughout the EU.
- Safe Zone: I'm not sure what she'll be doing there officially, but in broad terms it'll boil down to 'trying to help'. She could potentially be anything from a lecturer at the College to a UN representative or a charity worker. Given her ability to work for organisations based outside the US, she might be comparatively rich simply by virtue of getting paid in a stable currency and having access to goods purchased outside the country. She could even acquire and renovate the old Skinny Brickfront safehouse (which has been confirmed as lying on the right side of the Safe Zone boundary) to replace her old apartment in Manhattan.
Factions:
- Endgame: Her surrogate family is of great importance to her. She'll certainly stick with the organisation as long as it continues; as per discussions with Graeme and Alia, consistent contact would be maintained even if the group formally dissolved. They've done and shared too much to let such a minor thing as a change in circumstances get in the way of continuing to work together and watch out for each other.
- Lighthouse Initiative: 100% in agreement with their goals and operations. I don't think she'd commit to them full-time, but she'd very gladly help out with rescues, protection, training (martial, power-use, linguistic, or otherwise), and so on. She'll only turn down a Brian request if there's something vital she's already committed to. If some of her Endgame family wind up in the LI, then the ties will be even firmer.
- SESA: Would be a near-perfect fit, but for Ygraine being a foreign citizen. Even if she acquired US citizenship, her dual nationality would rule her out of becoming a Federal agent. Still, particularly if she winds up in some sort of diplomatic role (official or otherwise), she's likely to actively support Cat and her pet project.
People: (who might serve as connections to others)
- Cardinal: Among those given a posthumous commission by Liz, she'll try to support and keep an eye on Richard. Of course, even without his power, he could evade her well-meaning efforts fairly easily if he wanted to. Whether or not he does, this could very well bring her into contact with a lot of other people - either protecting and helping him, or trying to find him.
- Lene: Ygraine adores her alternate-future foster-daughter, and would go out of her way to assist her however she could: again, this could bring her into contact with quite a few people, not least Lene's unusually numerous array of parents and time-travelling friends.
- Jennifer: As an idealistic non-combatant, and a minor goddess when it comes to resolving supply issues, Jennifer might well have wound up in an Evolved 'safe zone' to help with refugees and resistance efforts during the Civil War: her ability to provide 100%-accurate replication of material objects could have had her in constant demand by assorted elements of the resistance. She's due to graduate university in 2012, so could even have done this without wholly abandoning her plan to pursue an acting career. Unfortunately for her, it seems particularly likely that she was 'safely' behind the lines in Portland or Seattle. She might also have been targetted earlier as a known Phoenix and Ferry member. It currently seems likely that she's known or presumed to be dead, though if staff or anyone else has bright / interesting ideas, let me know.
- Tamara: Ygraine is likely to have her favourite seer as a house-guest / companion / pupil for some extended periods during the timeskip, though I don't yet know what sort of circumstances might accompany this. Tamara might get to have a nice holiday in the UK, or be holed up in a cabin in the Rockies….
