Background

Harvey and his twin Avery were born into a strange world, and then returned to their parents and thrust into an even stranger world before they even managed to have their first birthday.

He may not remember anything before the Gateway, but growing up, he did know one thing was constant - his sister. As the world attempted to stabilise into something solid around them, he and Avery did everything together. Sleep, eat, grow, learn, fight, compete. They learned early on that this was a world in which you could not simply wait for something to come to you. You make it work for you.

He was blessed with guidance from family and friends all around him, a privilege he and his sister were made well aware of. It was also the cause of his fascination with looking forward as well as back, with a whole swathe of cultures and art, so much he would increasingly feel he lost out on.

Time marches on. Pressed by both his parents, he did his best to absorb any and all education he could realistically take in - his father teaching him the basics of robotic limb prosthetics when an accident resulted in the loss of his right leg below the knee, and his mother training him as her successor for the position of Human Resources Executive.

He was bright, he was willing, and after his mother was ousted from the position herself, he was turned down. Retreating into his hobbies, he instead sought out a space for himself in the Midlands, offering repairs of both the more easily manipulated augments and any tech odds and ends. As time passed, spurred on by donations of devices otherwise considered useless, he started collecting old media - movies, documentaries, anything he could find that might run on anything anyone had brought with them from the before-times. These things, too, would work for him.

Rebranding his little corner of the Midlands as The Nook, he now runs a combo repair shop and humble movie theater of variable quality but plentiful variety, along with his sister Avery.

Everything Harvey does, he does with everything he has to give for however long it holds his attention. There is nothing that lets him get better sleep at the end of the day than a successful endeavor, be it personal or business, and Harvey is always planning something.

Some say his mind never stops racing, possibly owing to both of his parents, and his energy is most often spent trying to improve something or another - so long as someone benefits, he's happy. His own lot is no less important, but he hasn't necessarily had a long term personal goal in mind for a few years now.

Family is incredibly important to him - not necessarily just those related to him by blood. Avery is a staple in his life, but he makes a point of continuing to make sure to keep in touch with basically everyone he knows well. If they have problems? Congratulations, they are now his problems, and he's on the case.

With so much going on at once, he occasionally burns himself out through either taking on too much at once… or through the inevitable occasional (perceived) failure to provide a solution to a problem. In the quiet times, he retreats, making art out of permanently decommissioned appliances and whatever scraps of metal he can wrench into expressing some part of his soul.
