"The Lovers" (prophetic painting)

Luminous golds and deep purples are offset by inky black in this painting of a man and a woman embracing at the edge of a rooftop looking out over New York City as the sun sinks slowly behind it.

Significance

Donated to a charity auction run by Melissa Pierce during Tartarus' grand opening, "The Lovers" comes straight from the private collection of Daniel Linderman, whose affinity for paintings done by the late Isaac Mendez is well-known throughout New York City's art world.

The painting depicts Isaac and Simone Deveaux on the Deveaux Building rooftop at sunset sometime before their deaths, an intact Manhattan skyline in the background.
