Central Park

// Central Park has been, and remains, a key attraction in New York City, both for tourists and local residents. Though slightly smaller, approximately 100 acres at its southern end scarred by and still recovering from the explosion, the vast northern regions of the park remain intact.//

// An array of paths and tracks wind their way through stands of trees and swathes of grass, frequented by joggers, bikers, dog-walkers, and horsemen alike. Flowerbeds, tended gardens, and sheltered conservatories provide a wide array of colorful plants; the sheer size of the park, along with a designated wildlife sanctuary add a wide variety of fauna to the park's visitor list. Several ponds and lakes, as well as the massive Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, break up the expanses of green and growing things. There are roads, for those who prefer to drive through; numerous playgrounds for children dot the landscape.//

// Many are the people who come to the Park - painters, birdwatchers, musicians, and rock climbers. Others come for the shows; the New York Shakespeare Festival at the Delacorte Theater, the annual outdoor concert of the New York Philharmonic on the Great Lawn, the summer performances of the Metropolitan Opera, and many other smaller performing groups besides. They come to ice-skate on the rink, to ride on the Central Park Carousel, to view the many, many statues scattered about the park.//

// Some of the southern end of the park remains buried beneath rubble. Some of it still looks worn and torn, struggling to come back from the edge of destruction despite everything the crews of landscapers can do. The Wollman Rink has not been rebuilt; the Central Park Wildlife Center remains very much a work in progress, but is not wholly a loss. Someday, this portion of Central Park just might be restored fully to its prior state.//

The day is coming down to an end and the sun peeks red along the horizon. Still on messenger duty to rack up a few extra bucks Kurt has just stopped for a moment to chow down his packed lunch that was missed earlier in the day. The park is filled with various New Yorkers making their way along paths. Kurt has situated himself nearer the destroyed half of the park on a bench and yawns absentmindedly, up a little early today.

And then Kurt is joined by a late teenaged female with red hair. She too has food from a local burger place, and with a small frown on her lips Jet begins to unwrap the contents. There is a brief glance to Kurt as she unwraps her burger, looking at him briefly before her attention diverts back to her burger. "Evening," comes her soft voice, mustering up a smile to the strange man, and yes, Jet just sat next to a stranger in central park.

Kurt looks up from the lasagna he has in a Tupperware container and raises an eyebrow towards the young lady beside him, "Evening." He responds to her greeting with a generally cheerful tone. Taking another bite-full of food he swallows and lulls into silence for a moment before feeling a touch awkward about it and saying in true conversational delight, "At least this fall isn't to bad weather yet. I won;t be sitting out in the park once the snow falls for sure."

Jet takes a bite of her burger as she chews it slowly, looking out into the park as she really does not seem to be focusing her attention on any one thing, just letting it wander. Then his words about the winter and she swallows. "Really?" A somewhat surprised tone from her at this, "You do not take joy in wrapping a scarf around your neck, wearing mittens, and walking in the snow hand in hand with the one you adore?" A perk of her brow at this as she exhales, "Snow is so beautiful in the white light. It glows."

Kurt hums and shrugs at this, "I don't know really. I'm not a big cold fan myself. You one of those winter wonderland fan then?" He asks still generally cheerful as he takes another bite of food, "But we do live in New york. If we didn't get outside after the first snowfall and enjoy it even a little bit then we wouldn't be here."

Jet smiles a bit to Kurt at this as she gives a shrug of her shoulders before taking a large bite of her burger, chewing then swallowing it. A sigh from her now, almost a content sigh. "I'm Juliet by the way," come her soft words as she offers a hand to Kurt. "Nice to meet you. Your food smells delicious."

Taking her hand a shaking it lightly Kurt smiles to the girl, "Kurt." He responds and looks to the lasagna, "Ah I'm a horrid cook really, it's not that great." He chuckles lightly at himself and shrugs back at Juliet.

"You made it yourself?" A perking of her brow to him at this as well as a grin after giving his hand a firm shake, "A man that can cook…" a soft breath from her at this, "Bestill my heart." A soft chuckle now as she finishes off her burger in a couple of bites before wadding up the wrapped and shoving it in her bag. Only when her mouth is empty does she talk now, "A pleasure to meet you, Kurt."

Kurt chuckles lightly towards the young woman and shakes his head, "Well my roomie helped but she's just learning to cook herself. I tried to explain I'm not the best cook but I had to teach her to run laundry through the machines even so I figured any cooking ought to be alright." A tendency to ramble in exhibited in the man but he's learning when to stop himself.

Jet listens to all that Kurt has to say, and if the man is rambling she doesn't seem to be minding it at all. Instead she gives him a soft smile and pulls out a pouch of apple slices, prepackaged as a crisp bite is taken of one and chewed thoughtfully. "Kurt, have you ever grown tired of life? Not to the point of wishing for suicide, but to be reckless?"

Kurt hums as she swallows the next bite of lasagna, "I guess I've had my moments in the past yeah. You having problems Juliet?" He asks sincerely and raises an eyebrow at the girl, no Kurt reminds himself, no more taking the found peoples home. He pushes the food about in it's container absentmindedly.

Jet sucks on the inside of her lips for a moment before she takes another bite of her apple slice, chewing it slowly them swallowing it. "Not problems really, no." A flash of a grin to Kurt at this now, "Just getting old and tired…" Of course she's only a teenager, right? Another bite of her apple wedge before she waves it at him. "So what do you do, Kurt?"

Kurt raises an eyebrow at the old and tired comment but just waves it off with his fork, "Well I'm a bike courier and computer tech. I know odd combo but everyone's gotta make a living." He shrugs and leans back on the bench as he closes up the container with some of the food still uneaten, leaving the fork inside.

Jet closes up her own bag of food before sitting it to her side as she slumps down a little bit on the bench and closes her eyes. An inhale from her then a soft exhale before her hazel colored eyes move to land upon Kurts own. "I don't really have a job. I should probably find one. Stop moving around so much. Settle down… you know?" A faint smile to him at this before looking to his food, "You're not hungry anymore?"

Kurt shrugs at this and bends down to put his container back in the pouch on the back of his bike, "Yeah flt like I was strvign but I guess not so much." He says to the young lady and then leaning back again suggests, "well if you can ride a bike check out Alley Cat Couriers, I know they are doign a hugh hiring spree right now. It's pretty physical work though I warn, not everyone can handle it."

Jet is looking out into the park again, the bag of apple slices set to the side as she just stares, watching the world. Then yo Kurt she turns her face to stare at him. "Who is your employer? I man mosey by at some point and check it out." A flash of a grin to him at this as well as a chuckle. "Perhaps it'll keep my mind busy."

Kurt smiles at this always happy to help people job wise and otherwise, "Well the best guy to talk to is Ray, just tell him Kurt sent you his way and he might give you a chance Juliet. If you do stop by I do the midtown runs myself so you probolly will get stuck with a guide or trainer of sorts who doesn't at first." He explains and then smiles again, "Always good to keep the mind busy."

Jet gives a small bobbing of her head to Kurt's words, starring at the entrance to the zoo before turning her attention back to him. "Perhaps I will. Perhaps I will." Gathering her food bag in her hand, she stands now and appears as if she's getting ready to take her leave. Her words only confirm this, "I should be going I think…" Trailing off her eyes now drift to Kurts own, flashing him a smile. "Kurt, I'm glad I met you. You're a good man. Perhaps I'll see you around sometime. Since I know where to find you now." Perhaps just a little… creepy sounding.

Kurt grins to Juliet and doesn't see anything creepy about the girl, innocence maybe of Kurt, "Oh well I hope so. It was a pleasure." He grins to her and standing up grabs his bike again and mounts it about to head off, "Well good luck Juliet." He chimes and adds, "And really everyone has the restless moments, don't worry. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end."

Stretching her arms above her head Jet flashes a warm smile to Kurt as she nears towards him, just waiting for him to ride off, as if the teenager was seeing him off. "It was a pleasure. Be safe Kurt…" A glance to his bike briefly, then back to him as her eyes lock with his, "And take care." Nothing more from her now, just waiting for him to ride off, and once he does? She meanders off.
