Moab Federal Penitentiary - Yard
Al is….puzzled. Has been for the past day or so. As soon as they're let out into the yard, he heads for the fence, in search of Helena. When he spots her, he waves her over with a quick motion of a pale hand.
Helena makes her way over, willing enough to talk to him, expression concerned over his puzzled expression. "Alex." she says gently, curling her fingers into the links. "What's wrong?"
Alexander leans in to the fence, as if weary, nevermind that he'll have chainlink imprinted on his forehead for a while after. "What happened yesterday?" he murmurs, eyeing her from under copper-colored brows.
Helena frowns a little bit, and takes a little look around before leaning close. "We were contacted by someone still on the outside." she says softly.
Alexander nods to that, once. And then, "Who is Teodoro, and why does he love me?" Yeah, that's sort of out of left field, but it wasn't just Helena who got secret birdy messages.
Helena's eyes go slightly wide. "Teodoro…Teo." She smiles, albeit wryly. "He's the guy you've been in love with for the past year."
"Wait a minute," Confusion is writ large on Al's features. "I thought I was …I thought I had something with that Italian lady. Lucrezia. When ws that?"
Helena nods her head. "You did. You've been in love with Teo for a long time, but there were problems. I don't know all the details. Lucrezia was…I don't know what to call it, really."
Alexander quirks a brow. "Sounds like I was kinna a dog. Or else Teo was straight," he says, voice dry.
"Teo wasn't sure for a long while." Helena says. "But he sorted out and I guess he likes both. He um, started seeing another man. Which may be why you started seeing Lucrezia."
Alexander shrugs at that, before brushing dust off his orange jumpsuit. Talk about not his color. "How'd I ever land a woman like that?" he asks, bluntly. "Did I win the lottery or something, after I got back from Iraq?"
Helena hesitates and then, "You met her through Teo. She's his aunt."
Alexander peers at her. "That's just weird," he says, tone flat. "I….don't even know what to say."
Helena shrugs. "I wasn't privy to all of what went on. I can tell you that you came to cry on my shoulder a few times about it." she says frankly.
Alexander's lips thin out, and he bridles a little, as if embarassed. "Damn. I'm sorry," he says, tone gone awkward.
Helena blinks. "Don't be. You're my friend. I'm happy to hear he sent you that message, but I'm sorry you don't remember him. Teo is infinitely worth remembering."
"I'm sorry, too. I guess I lost so many people, after that guy did that to me," he says, more softly. "I….did you ever meet my family? Do you know how they are?"
Helena pauses a moment. "In 2006, there was an explosion. You lost your family in it."
Helena adds quietly, "I'm sorry."
There's a clink, as his grip on the chainlink goes convulsive. "So I really am an orphan now," he says, very softly.
"You have people who love you like family." Helena says, reaching out to curve her fingers against his. "I know it's not the same, but it's something. You're not alone."
"I remember my mama and my father dying," he says, as he blinks a little too rapidly. "I just….man. At least they can't grab anyone to use them against me."
Helena nods. "I lost my mother. Not in the explosion, but…" she trails off. "Listen." she says. "There's something I need to do. It's going to look like I've gone crazy, but I need you to know, I haven't. It's just the means to an end. Can you trust me that when you see it, you'll know there's more to what's going on then how it looks?"
Alexander nods to her, solemnly. "I understand," he says, voice quiet.
"I may need you to reassure Django." she adds. "I don't give a shit about what Boxer thinks, and Satoru…only if he asks."
Alexander offers a tight nod. "I understand. You be careful," he admonishes.
Helena pauses. "Do I need to tell you that you need to keep Teo's name from Verse?" she asks.
"No," he says, quietly. "I almost wish I hadn't heard. What I don't know I can't betray, and I don't know what he'll do to me…."
"You asked." Helena says. "I think keeping the information from Verse is what flayed your neurons and made you lose everything."
"It wouldn't surprise me," Al says, unhappily.
