With around 17,000 residents, the 19th Ward is the largest neighborhood of the city of Rochester and is filled with one- and two-family homes, along with a scattering of small apartment complexes. Though its population did sharply decline following the war, the neighborhood has weathered most hardships that have come its way. The neighborhood prides itself on its racial, ethnic and economic diversity; university professors, students, city officials, and some of the city's poorest families all live in the 19th Ward. The southeastern portion, called Brooks Landing, is connected to the University of Rochester River Campus via a pedestrian bridge. The Rochester International Airport and Rochester Institute of Technology are both found in the 19th Ward.
