Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes and Midwestern regions of the United States. The state's name, Michigan, originates from the (Ojibwe word) mishigamaa, meaning "large water" or "large lake". Michigan is a divided state, with its western half obliterated by conflicts from the civil war, primarily spilling over from Illinois. However, Detroit became one of the bastions for the Resistance early on in the war, resulting in a strong fighting force repelling Loyalist attacks and keeping the once crumbling city intact. Today, Michigan is a growing economic power within the US and a site of an industrial renaissance period, with major corporations like Raytech locating their central offices in Detroit. Michigan is set to lead the charge into the post-war world, and it is one of the critical pieces of infrastructure in post-war America.
