New Mexico is a state in the Southwestern region of the United States of America; its capital and cultural center was Santa Fe while its largest city was Albuquerque with its accompanying metropolitan area, both of which were totally destroyed during the Second American Civil War. Due to their geographic locations, northern and eastern New Mexico exhibit a colder, alpine climate, while western and southern New Mexico exhibit a warmer, arid climate. The largest populations centers are now in the state's eastern edge, along the Roswell, Artesia, and Carlsbad line. The majority of New Mexico consists of demolished military installations, abandoned or ruined cities, and wild forests and desert. The western fifth of the state, encompassing the New Mexican portions of the Navajo Nation and Zuni reservation lands.
