The Bronx Zoo
Owner Established November 8, 1899
Purpose An animal habitat and sanctuary
Status Closed

The Bronx Zoo was once a major attraction in the City of New York that remained open after the midtown bomb of 2006. It didn't officially closed its doors until February 2012, when the employees simply stopped showing up for work. The animals continued to be cared for in captivity for a week or two until someone saw fit to open every habitat and release them rather than continue with their care.

Since that time the cages have remained relatively empty, save for a few species of wild animals that have reclaimed the place as home.
