Phoenix Leaflets Delivered

In the evening following the attack on the Brooklyn Public Library, many homes in the Brooklyn area, news/paper outlets, and radio stations over the city have received copies of a leaflet supposedly created and disseminated by the evolved-rights group called Phoenix. The message has also been uploaded to the internet in quite a few forms. The leaflets are headed with the faces of Dominic Morgan, Daniel Chavez, and James Winston- the three men that spearheaded the attack on the library that ended in the death of one registered, card-carrying Evolved. Above, a text heading, and then below, another block of text and a quote. And at the very bottom, a stylized Phoenix that bears a striking resemblance to the Rebel Alliance symbol of Star Wars Infamy.

"Keep yourself from being hunted like an animal by the real criminals! Refuse registration, keep safe!

"Humanis First condones the death of civilians, which is a reprehensible act. In the month of July alone, they have been the cause of at least seven innocent lives being lost, and at least thirty-five injuries. That is more than one person dead, and six injured per day. The authorities seem to be doing very little to curb these true terrorists; will the numbers keep climbing because of their blatant hate and bigotry, and the apparent inability of our city and our leaders to stop them?

"The government has labeled us as the 'terrorists', while we are simply a group fighting for freedom, for human rights and equal protection under the law, without having to label ourselves as any different from our neighbors. Humanis First has an obvious and hate-filled agenda not unlike that of the Klan many years ago, or of Neo-Nazis. Are these the sort of people that you wish to ignore? Are these the people that you wish the world to see you ignore? Should not the law be finding these criminals and sentencing them for their crimes?

"Reason dictates that against hate, people will rise up against tyranny and against those that support it. They will rise up, in order to raise degraded man to his proper rank, his proper place in the world, and his rightful independence from bigotry. His proper place, where he will be free and equal in the eyes of the globe, and in the eyes of his peers. Rise up against Humanis First; stop the hate, stop the violence, stop the innocent lives being lost, and stop the dangers of abiding by the very laws that have been called forth to make your fellow man less than equal."

Use your Common Sense,
Tommie Paine

"These are the times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value." - Thomas Paine, The Crisis
