LONDON — Actor and Musician Eloise Cosgrove, best known for her portrayal of Eve Mas on River Styx, died on Friday from an overdose of fentanyl.

Cosgrove died a week shy of her 41st birthday on September 18th. She had struggled with drug addiction in her early 20s but was sober for many years before relapsing in 2019. Eloise was found dead in her hotel room in Berlin. The medical examiner later ruled that the mother of two had died from a fentanyl overdose.

Cosgrove won two BAFTA awards for her portrayal of Eve Mas on the hit BBC series River Styx and was touring with her prog rock band Faith in Proxy when she passed. Her band members Tay Kendrick and Samantha Hook wrote glowing tributes to the late actress on their social media accounts today.

Cosgrove was also an acclaimed stage actor and director, who helped co-found a theater company, aWAKEn, and earned Tony Award nominations for her performances in “Goodnight Children Everywhere” (2000), “God of Carnage” (2003) and “Death of a Salesman” (2012), in which she starred as a gender-bent Willy Loman.

River Styx co-stars have all expressed their grief over her passing. Cosgrove's death comes just one week after she was released from her contract with the BBC over a contentious appearance on the Graham Norton show.

She is survived by her daughters Nadine and Pino Cosgrove.
