Zachery Miller and his identical twin brother Damian were born in Surrey, England. The two attended separate private schools. Despite this, both the boys grew up with an increasing interest in their father's line of work. He was a surgeon in the local hospital, and though his parenting was a little more than strict, his stories were the best. Slowly but surely the two boys became set on having a career in the same area of expertise, but even though both the brothers spent an equal amount of time and effort on studying and trying to make this dream come true, only Damian eventually succeeded in getting a PhD. Discouraged, Zachery slummed around the UK working odd jobs and struggling to slither out of his successful brother's shadow.
Eventually, Zachery pushed himself and re-applied to medical school and fought harder than ever to prove himself. This time, fate conspired when Zachery's parents were killed in an automobile accident days before his 29th birthday. Their deaths his Zachery harder than he imagined they would, and he dropped out of university and threw his remaining savings into relocating to the United States to put as much distance between himself and his family as he could manage. A year after landing in New York, Zachery tried for a third time to pursue medical schooling and the third try was the charm. Zachery graduated in 2008 and took up a residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Unfortunately, the surgeon's son ended up biting off more than he could chew. A lack of social skills was made up for by sheer determination and perseverance, but this in itself resulted in Zachery working day and night to keep his job. The lack of sleep and a general seclusion from the rest of the world caught up with him eventually. There soon came a time when he saw no other way out but through an old and decidedly bad habit - alcohol took the edge off of his issues for a little while, but fixing one problem with another did him few favors. By halfway through his residency, Zachery was a full-blown alcoholic and at risk of losing his medical license after a nurse noticed he was intoxicated while performing surgery. Faced with significant debt, the threat of losing his career, and a spiraling state of mental health Zachery was surprised when he was approached by representatives of the Linderman Group for a "discreet contract."
Zachery was hired out by the Linderman Group's head of public relations, Kaydence Lee Zarek, to take on illicit contracts with regards to his work. Zachery would be financially compensated for his time, the Linderman Group would help protect his professional reputation from allegations of misconduct, and he would in turn handle personal favors for them from time to time. As a show of good faith, the nurse who had lodged a claim against Zachery was miraculously hit by a bus and no further investigation took place. Zachery continued his residency without incident, specializing in spinal surgery following his residency, staying with the same hospital.
Between 2014 and 2017 Zachery was complicit in 2 murders and 1 case where he was asked to ensure a patient was paralyzed as a "message" from the Linderman Group. Each victim was a patient, each patient a victim of the Linderman Group's special brand of weaponized cruelty. While his compliance made him wealthy and secure, it eroded his own psychological well-being. Daniel Linderman's death shook up Zachery's life, and while it did not cut into his finances, it meant a reprieve from his grim work. This changed in 2017 when Nicole Nichols wound up on his table.
On a cold, rainy night in 2017 Zachery received a last-minute message from Linderman Group to insure that Ms. Nichols did not leave his table. Unfortunately for them, Zachery had a crisis of conscience and pretended not to receive the message and successfully repaired Ms. Nichols' spine. He also immediately regretted it because they were probably going to kill him what the fuck was he thinking?!
The expected bullet in his back never came.
Zachery's failure to kill Nicole was seen as an issue of timing and the Linderman Group never came back at him for this, nor did they call on his services any further. In order to keep up appearances, Zachery attended a Linderman Group gala in the summer of 2018, Nicole met Doctor Miller again and the two fell hopelessly in love. They married on Halloween in 2019.
He has never told her the truth.
