Village Renaissance: Delilah's Apartment
Just entering the apartment, it gives of a feeling of comfortable homeliness; light colors, pastel shades, floral designs, clean and sweet smells, and only accents of dark where it most fits. The front room leads to a den further on, with a large sofa in a coffee cream color sitting opposite a similar chair, and a wooden table in between. There is only an almost retro-looking television off on the other side, but the things hooked up to it show that it is not as old as it seems. Nothing is, really.
To the far end is the kitchen, which always seems to smell like something recently cooked there; the appliances and counters are squeaky clean, but obviously used on a regular basis, and the leftover anything in the fridge can attest to that, as can a perpetual dish of cookies on the table. The bathroom is also squeaky clean, and it seems as if anyone coming out smells significantly nicer than when they had gone in; there is a closet within where the washer and dryer stay. There are two bedrooms, but one is emptied and instead made into a big rainbow-colored sewing and storage room, complete with fabric bolts and racks on wheels centered around a masterfully ordered sewing machine and table.
The actual bedroom is based in those mainly soft colors, yet the lower walls have at least two long, cluttered tackboards home to pictures, clippings, seemingly random crafts, and generally quirky things. A desk in a similar state sits in the far corner by the closet, opposite a low, wide, fluffy-looking bed swamped in pillows and comforters. At least half a dozen stuffed animals peek out from various points.
It's been a long day, from around 11am to 6pm, they've been at the convention doing all sorts of stuff. shopping for comics at various venders, getting autographs from comic artists, writers, and others in the industry. There were even some celebrities Delilah may have recognized from Sci Fi or comic related shows and movies. The convention was basically like one big geeky fair, he even entered a trading card tournament and dragged her to some sneak previews of upcoming shows.
Now, returning to Delilah's apartment, Magnes in his Spider-Man costume, Delilah dressed as Firestar, they both have quite a few bags. Figures, models, comics, regular books, tabletop things, boxes of trading cards, and even some new costume accessories, he just went on a big spending spree for the both of them. "I can't believe we won third place in that costume duo contest, and we can order two free one year subscriptions to any comic we want, each!" he seems excited about that as he sits his bags on the floor, taking a seat on her couch.
He removes his Spider-Man mask, looking around at her apartment curiously. "I hope you had fun."
Delilah probably would not have gone to the Geek Fair if it were not for Magnes' tendency to tug on her sleeves as it is. In the end, after all of the walking, the talking, and even some balking- she is quite glad that she went along. Firestar was a hit in her own way, and Delilah's luck in somehow finding some strangely colored contacts seemed to seal the deal. She still has them in, the fiery colors making her look quite demonic up close.
"I'm not much of a subscriber. I'm a graphic novel sorta girl. You wanna use mine?" She flops down into the couch cushion beside him, legs outstretched and eyes on her boots. The girl is obviously thinking about taking them off, she just hasn't yet. "I did. It was… different!" For sure. Lilah chuckles and eyes some of the bags they brought in. "I wonder if Abby would tabletop with us. Or Teo. Hrm."
"I don't know, Abby might think it's too immature." Magnes says with the first hint of a darker mood all day, but quickly perks up and starts going through one of his bags. "I bought a few novels I saw you looking at, I thought you might like them." He offers a bag stuffed with about ten novels inside of one of the bigger bags. Between discounts and saving up all year, he had more than enough money for this convention. "I never thought I'd be one of the guys there with a hot girl in costume."
Then, realizing what he just said, he looks over at her, cheeks flushed. "I uh, I mean, I…" He gives up, deciding to sigh in defeat instead.
"It's a game. Everyone likes games." There, problem solved. Then, an 'ooh' followed by a "Oh, you didn't have to." as she accepts the bag he holds out in order to peer through what is inside. But then again, girls say that a lot, and these ones are the ones she was looking at longingly. "Thank you, Magnet."
"Yeah, okay, I get it." She continues, peering at Magnes carefully past the edge of the bag. "You find me attractive. I understand. I find people attractive all the time. The big difference is, that my brain-to-mouth filter is a bit more thorough." She still can be brutally, and way too honest sometimes, but at least she knows how to have tact when dealing with people she likes. Dee laughs a bit as she finishes today's lesson for him. "If it doesn't sound right when you say it in your head, don't say it." Pot, kettle? Just a bit.
"I wanted to, you're being really nice to me and you don't have to, so I wanted to do something for you." Magnes smiles at her, then stands and starts heading for the bathroom where he changed before they left. "I didn't mean to slip, it's just, I wasn't thinking. You are attractive, okay? You turn my brain into a dumb puddle of goo, I can't help it sometimes. There." Of course, he closes the door before she can see his face light up again; it sounds a lot braver when you hide!
Oh, wow. His choice of words is getting better. One way to make a girl proud is to tell her she turns you into goo. Delilah smiles to herself when he shuts the door(mostly to hide behind it, right?). While he is in there, she takes the opportunity to gracelessly pry the shiny red calf-boots from her feet. Generally she is good with the heels- but the plastic sock thing these shoes have going on- not something that she favors.
"You ever think about going around like that on walls and stuff?" Kids would love it. Adults would 'wtf?'.
"I don't know, I'm afraid the police might shoot at me or something. Might be fun to try one day though." The peeling and rustling of fabric can be heard in the bathroom, before Magnes walks out in his usual Robin shirt attire, Spider-Man costume balled up under his arm. "So, we did something I wanna do, you got to see me in my element, now I wanna learn about you. What do you like to do?" he asks, appearing genuinely interested as he takes his seat next to her again.
Delilah is stretching her legs from her seat on the couch, sitting up as Magnes comes back over and stretching out her back, hands over her head. "I like to do lots of things. I like dancing, but I never really get a chance to. I like doing magic too. My grandfather got me going on that." Lilah smiles fondly, putting her hands on the edge of the sofa and rocking a little back and forth. "I'm no Harry Houdini, but I'm pretty damn good, if you'll excuse the horn-tooting."
"Do you like dressing up, too?" Magnes wonders, eyes glued to her legs whenever he thinks she's not looking, but at least his mouth is generally functioning at the moment. "And um, can you show me a trick? I don't really know any magic, always seemed too hard."
"Obviously. I think I explained that last night a little. Quick change illusions even put them both together." She is smiling wide now, pausing to look around for something to work with. "Oh, sure. No problem." She peers over shoulder, and the 'oh' expression she has when she looks back at Magnes must mean she thought of something to use. "Come'ere." And without waiting, Delilah lifts her hand towards his head only to come up with a quarter from apparently behind his ear. "I wonder if you have enough for a soda back there…" She gives him the first quarter and pulls out three more from the same spot. "Yep."
And with that, she clamps all four in her hand as if to put them down, but she opens her fingers a second later and instead, is holding a dollar bill.
Even heroines keep money somewhere, right?
"Whoa. I can't believe you made such a normal trick so awesome!" Magnes says, clearly impressed as he reaches back and rubs his ear. "I never would have imagined you were a magician." He sits back, eyeing the dollar, then his eyes go up to her's. "I was thinking, um, maybe you could draw designs, and I could make them. I'd get a lot more practice and you'd have lots of new stuff to wear."
There's where she keeps it. Delilah tucks the dollar under the neck of the costume. "I'm not much of an artist, but if it is collaborations that sound fun, sure. We can do that."
"I don't really know anything about fashion." Magnes admits, grabbing one of the boots she removed. "I just make what I see in pictures, I look for what might be easy to modify. Maybe you can teach me more about fashion and I can be your own personal designer or something."
"My sense of fashion is more than a little retro, but I'll try." Delilah sits up smartly and starts to pull off her gloves, a finger at a time. "Have you worked with patterns much?" She might just have a little library of them tucked away somewhere. "I hear they make patterns for costumes too…"
"My Spider-Man costume used patterns." Magnes points out, unfolding the leg of the costume to show her the stitched together red and blue parts. "And I don't think retro is bad. I mean, I looked up the things you were talking about last night; well, not about you specifically, just, the subject. Classic pin-up women were really something…"
Delilah would fall over if it suited her, but instead she just laughs again. "Did you google me, Magnes Varlane?" She has to ask! "Who was your favorite? Paintings or photos?" She pries the mask off next, leaving her as Delilah with crazy eyes. Nice job, you found one of her other favorite things! "I've never been able to decide."
"Well, I uh, there was this really popular one, Bettie Page, and uh, someone named Sabina Kelley or something. I saw a um, lot…" Magnes is quite obviously flustered on the subject, but the fact that he's talking about it at all seems to suggest that he's somewhat comfortable. "I thought about it, I'll admit that, but I didn't look you up. If you were naked or anything, I would have felt guilty about seeing."
"Of course you saw a lot." Wait, what? "Now I want to look myself up. I wonder if there would be much, period…" Delilah goes into thoughtful mode, standing up with her hand finding the zipper on the front of her suit. "I bet there's at least some of those model shots. Art students and all." By the time she turns back around to finish the thought out loud, the zipper is just below her chest, offering a very nice view.
Magnes' eyes are wide, practically burning a hole into her chest as he just stares. He doesn't float, and when his mouth moves, no words come out, he's simply in shock.
It takes a moment to break the awkward pause, saying, "I…"
Now Delilah is just testing to see how long it takes for Magnes to have liftoff. Purely messing with him, at this point. Zipper goes doooowwn, and does not stop until it reaches around her belly button.
Magnes rises, up, up, bang, his head hits the ceiling. "Ugh, oh god, sorry." He lowers himself again, rubbing the back of his head, then his eyes move to her again. He quite obviously wants to see, since he's not looking away, but his words are completely contrary to his demeanor. "Y-you should turn around, or I should close my eyes or something…" His eyes do not close.
Ouch! She winces a little when he practically balloon-hops up into the ceiling, watching him as he floats back down. "So why don't you?" Delilah dares him with a sly smile, the smaller of her fingers wiggling in a threat to pull the zipper down further.
Magnes' eyes seem to try to stay on her chest and follow the zipper at the same time, swallowing and even scooting a little bit closer. "I'll close my eyes in a minute." he idly says, barely paying attention to his words, like a guy answering questions while he's trying to watch TV. "I, uh, maybe you should stop…"
"Tick-tock, tick-tock." No? Okay, then. And the zipper goes the rest of the way down, where Dee lets go of it and puts the tips of her fingers to their respective shoulders. "Hey, this is my place. If you don't like it here, then leave." An empty threat! At least Delilah is good natured in introducing Magnes to the World of Women, right? Right. He might as well learn from something not two-dimensional. Immersion is the best medicine in his case.
"W-wait…" Magnes seems as if he's gonna move, looking back at the door, almost getting up, but then there's the zipper, and she grabs the shoulders. He stops, turns to face her, and just continues to watch with a bit of a shamed expression. "I'm a pervert…"
"No, you're just human." Lilah smiles down that angle to him, putting her thumbs under some of the fabric on her shoulders. Clavicle, neck, shoulder- bared in that order. "At least you didn't turn my room upside down, eh?" She turns now, starting across the living room carpet towards the other room. In an awfully Jessica Rabbit-like manner, the yellow suit slips down over the redhead's arms, and once she lets go of it, the outfit pools around her ankles. What is underneath is very white and laced- boyshorts and a pushup bra. Don't leave home without-em. But now that she's out of the suit, Delilah seems rather nonchalant about the whole thing. "See? Nothing exploded, rocks didn't fall, nobody died."
"I-I almost thought you'd be naked." Magnes says with a bit of a sigh, though still watches, eyes scanning over every curve. He's clearly only mildly disappointed with the lack of her nudity, not seeming intent on turning away any time soon. "I-I've never even been in a room with a girl with this little on, I'm not sure what to say. U-um, thank you?"
"If I was naked under there you would have noticed much earlier. You're welcome." Delilah says with a bow of her head, stepping out of the puddle of fabric and heading into the next room. In a few minutes, she comes back out- dressed in a simple navy blue dress, hands behind her head tying up her hair into a tail.
Magnes sits there, twiddling his thumbs when she steps back out. He nods, but lets them linger in awkward silence for a few minutes. His shoes tap against the floor, gaze locked on his hands. "I feel stupid for not knowing what to do in these situations, and even more stupid for wanting to ask you."
"Ask me what? What to do, you mean? I have some food to cook if you want to stick around- I'm sure there's enough." And maybe he can help! Delilah bends to gather up the Firestar pieces and order them so that they can easily be packed for cleaning.
"A-ah, sure, I can cook!" Magnes eagarly offers, quickly standing and walking to look for the kitchen. "Maybe I can teach you how to make a pizza from scratch, if you don't know already."
Delilah walks across the room after Magnes, and into the kitchen after putting up the costume. What is it with guys and pizza? "I've never tried! No time like the present." And provided that they can find the ingredients in her kitchen(being very likely), that is exactly the task they dive into. Homemade pizza time!
