Chapter One: "Destiny"

Beneath the surface of green lawns and white monuments, something unfinished lies in Washington, D.C. Time travelers and shapeshifted masks, illusions and smoke and mirrors to veer the public eye away from a plot that could prove to lead the entire country into even darker times than one east coast city is currently in the throes of. Nathan Petrelli is elected President of the United States, the so-called maverick independent whose administration sold itself to be a middle ground between civil freedom for the Evolved threat, and control. With politicians and advisors of Humanis First persuasion, however, corruption beneath the surface is beginning to show. But it's not the only secret. The President was quietly usurped by his own future alterego, one who is intent on steering America away from the brighter course of fate he came from. It's time for a come back. Meanwhile, a woman once told her son that he could be anything. He could even be President. |

Martial law remains a heavy burden on New York City. Robotic sentinels and hunters crawl through the ruinous remains to track down those who might hide there, on behalf of the government. Razor wire lines territories such as the wrecked southern half of Roosevelt Island, Hunter's Point, and the reclaimed territory of Staten Island. Soldiers move unchecked. It's a quickly tightening noose, but it's not an execution until everything is swinging. March and onwards sees stories of Evolved oppression and the means and methods that the government take to see this through under the shadow of martial law and the attempt to reclaim order. Or superiority. |

As the conflict between the American government and New York City's resistance fighters continues to escalate, its participants discover that their dreams are plagued by echoes of what appears to be a much bleaker, more desolate future than what's been envisioned by either side. Those affected seek answers to the questions raised by the dreamweaver responsible, not realizing that what they're looking for can already be found in the waking world, and that their actions in the past have not only impacted their present, but somebody else's as well… And now they're here. |
