Overview
Natural variation exists in all things; in a world where New York City has become a beacon of hope, there are still those who choose to turn away and let its guiding light wash over their backs. Judah Demsky is one of these people for whom not a lot has changed.1 In the ten years between 2009 and 2019, he has watched Colette Nichols and Tamara Brooks begin building a future for themselves while maintaining a distance from his girls that strikes a comfortable balance between supportiveness and his respect for everybody's personal privacy.
He has also buried both his parents, risen in rank from Detective to Sergeant to Lieutenant to Captain, and is presently debating the merits of early retiremenent in light of a chronic heart condition that continues to resurface despite the best attempts of registered healers working in conjunction with the NYPD. The grim reality is that he himself could go at any time, a victim of cardiac arrest or stroke, but this is information he's been careful to conceal from both his friends at work and his family at home. It's not that he doesn't want them to worry. He just doesn't like it when people make a fuss over things no one has any control over, himself included.
The 1991 slaying of his younger sister, Leah, remains unsolved.
