Unexpected Thunderstorm Hits Nyc

National Weather Service
July 8, 2010

A freak thunderstorm appearing over the metropolitan New York region overnight is responsible for a number of lightning strikes in the region of Staten Island and Jersey City. There have been no reported injuries associated with these touch downs.

According to analysis by the National Weather Service, the cold front approaching from the west was the cause of the severe weather, however it is suspected that this was the result of active weather manipulation by an SLC-expressive human.

The torrential rain is expected to fall across much of New York City through to 10:00am and is likely to come on the heat of a cooling trend now put into effect by the changed weather pattern. Whether this cooldown will stick long enough to make a difference has yet to be determined by meteorologists.
