Background

A member of Phoenix by the end of 2008, Ygraine was one of those recruited by Edward Ray to save the world in January 2009.

They failed, spending their time chasing a van full of infected victims while the major release site was actually half a continent away.

The impending death of the world initially plunged Ygraine into the darker recesses of her mind; trapped in a foreign city by an array of travel bans as the apocalypse descended, she felt helpless and isolated in a way she’d never experienced before. When Edward Ray drew her into his band of survivors she initially had no idea why she might have been considered worth saving, and dedicated herself to quietly assisting around the Hub.

In time, she realised that her Evolved ability was of considerable use in this situation, and that there might indeed be a significant reason for her to have been brought beneath ConEd. Overcoming her terror, she finally resumed her old habit of confronting demons and signed up for scavenging duty - and with it, the risk of catching the Virus. As a wall-walker, she would be useful to the scavengers; as someone who can share the ability with a whole team of foragers, and furthermore has some ability to sense the presence of hidden items and people, she has unexpectedly found a sense of purpose at the close of days.

Psych Profile

Ygraine expects to die. Not in the short term - she has regained a good deal of faith in her abilities, both mundane and Evolved - but in the mid term it seems exceedingly likely. For the demon-haunted Briton, this is actually somewhat liberating: it gives her a clear set of challenges to confront, and every day she holds the end at bay is a victory.

Evolved Ability

Scavenging runs in the post-apocalypse have given Ygraine a great deal of practice in taking herself and a small group of team-mates over and under the ruins of New York. She grants the ability to access places that would otherwise be wholly out of reach, opening up ‘lost’ caches of supplies and reducing the risk of being caught by both people and traps. Her sensory abilities (identifying potential targets for her power) have been particularly finely-tuned, helping her to ‘scout’ through solid objects and sense presences within a dozen yards of her location - letting her spot many problems and identify potential resources from an adjacent street or storey.

As ever, she neither creates nor negates force: she 'just' creates charges on individual objects, that redirect gravity. Much of the time her ability's sensory awareness is suppressed (much as the sensation of wearing one's clothes or the feeling of breathing are), though it can be consciously focused upon - and any dramatic change will grab her attention.
