Scene Title Want To Come With Me?
Synopsis Abigail calls Victor up with an offer of a plane ticket if he wants to come to Louisiana with her on short notice.
Date July 21, 2009

Abigail & Leonards Apartment.

An average middle class apartment, it's populated with decidedly not middle class furniture. A solitary red suede couch occupies the immediate living room, with a battered coffee table and side tables as it's companion. A decent sized TV sits on a cupboard with a stereo, DVD player. The kitchen sports a relic from the 70's, with matching chairs that still seem to be in decent condition. The two bedrooms off the hall are distinguishable from the other, one bearing a gold cross nailed above the door, the other not.

In the corner of the living room is an ornate cage on a bird stand, a blue budgie within it's depths. In another corner is a massive cat tree house, and often occupied by a black cat with a red suede collar. It looks barely lived in, like the owners are not yet investing their effort quite yet to move in.

Maybe he's on duty. Maybe he's not. It's just before dinner and Abigail got her bright idea tm^. Lets only hope that it works. Taking a cue from Richards advice to get out of dodge and her newfound computer skills, Abigail was sitting in front of her computer with websites open for travel as she dials a number and waits for someone to answer.

It has to be him. It rings like this: "*RII*-h'lo?" Only Vic could almost beat the phone ring. One might even think he was waiting for the call if it wasn't remembered he has reflexes like a rattlesnake.

"Wow.. you're fast" Duh, comes over the line. "What do you think… about Louisiana?"

"That's a state, right?" asks Vic, a grin in his voice. "Wow. Hi to you too Abby. Whatchoo doin?"

"I'm wondering.. how much trouble you'd be in if you came to Louisiana with me, for the next two weeks. A friend bought me a ticket home and.. I don't want to go alone"

There's a silence briefly. "Uh." Another second. "I could. Put in for time off I guess? You want me to go home with you?" Is that a hint of hope in his voice? Like hey, maybe they're working out?

You say, "well, there's ulterior motive to it to but, yes. I'd like to introduce you to my parents" There's a pause "And no, Scruffy Illegal Grandpa didn't get asked first" Besides, her father hates SIG and would likely have her head. "There's a reason someone bought me the ticket Victor. Something's going down and they want me out of the way so that I don't get hurt. In turn, I want you to come with me for the same reason"

Vic's voice takes on a twinge of sarcasm, "Oh is this like how that one time you wanted to meet me and tell me to get out of town because something was going down back when the bridge collapsed?"

That hurt. Maybe he doesn't know it, but that does hurt. "I was on that bridge Victor" Spoken quietly.

Welcome to the club. Vic would never say that, though. He really isn't even the guy to think it. "I'm sorry." he replies. "I'd love to go with you, Abby."

"I'm not asking just because I want you safe Victor. I'm asking because, I'd like the company, because I'd like to make sure that there's .. someone to date when whatever is happening, happens"

The warmth creeps back into Vic's voice when he says, "Then I'll absolutely go with you. That's like, the best reason to go. When do you need me?"

"Tomorrow morning at 6, at the airport. plane leaves at 8. I managed to get you on the same flights" Or she did now as there's a click of a button and she's filling in the ticket information. "pack for, well, pack for a week, can do laundry there. Just go look at the weather channel for forecast but it should be nice. I'll take you into New Orleans even, while we're there" Click, click, click. There's warmth in her own voice as she's finishing the rest of it all.

"Wow okay. Uhm…let me call my shift sergeant and let them know. I'm gonna tell them I'm taking emergency family leave. My family's so crazy it's probably the truth anyway…" Did Vic just say that? Does he know something? The way he said it was rather rueful, like he might.

"Yeah, boy will it ever. Cause your sister is you know…" Yeah. "Call her, leave her a message. She's going through something right now and she's involved in whatever is happening" now she's veering into murky territory. "Anyways, airport, 6 am. I'll probably have Teo with me to make sure I actually make it to the airport, and get on the plane, given my track record"

There's a quiet on Vic's end about his sister. "Whatever." he says to that darkly before skipping past it and moving on to more of a bright Vic-Voice, "Okay. You got it. I'll see you. Say hi to Mailbox Man for me."

Whatever indeed. Maybe she'll go upstairs and bug Gillian. Maybe not. "I will Victor. Sorry for it being last minute, I just got the tickets a few hours ago. I'll let you get back to work"

"S'okay Abby. I always wanna talk to you." answers Vic with a moderate amount of cheer. "Anything else I can get you? Want me to come over and pack your things? Make out?" He's kidding, but only just.

"Much as I'd like that, I just had a really really sick person in my bathroom and I gotta go take care of the bar before I leave. because.. I own a bar now" Surprise. Again. "And I gotta make sure it's gonna be okay for two weeks"

"Right. Okay!" Strangeness must have just numbed Vic, or else he doesn't listen anymore. Or else he thinks it's a load of crap. Or any combination of the three! He just doesn't have much of a reaction to the news. "Catch you later, Abby. Miss you."

"Miss you too Vic. Take care" No I love you's. She can't bring herself to say what really isn't true. Not yet maybe, maybe never. She doesn't know. What she does know is that she's leaving for a few weeks, she won't be alone and at least maybe she can give Victor a chance without the ghost of SIG hanging abover her.
